Tire Inflation Question

On our 2955RL I looked at the tires for proper inflation pressure, and couldn't see it. I looked on the decal where weights are and it talks about 80PSI. Does this sound right? Checked the cold tires and they have an average of 75PSI right now.

Thanks

The max inflation is listed on the sidewall. It should say "max load xxxxlbs. at xxpsi. cold. Chances are your tires are LT 235/85/R16, LRE that have a max inflation of 80 psi. I always run the trailer tires at max psi.

Bob, in the tiny print on the side of the tire it should talk about max weight at 80 psi or mayb 65psi. That's the max psi for the tire. Also, if you find something that says 'load range E', then it's 80. Load range D is 65. John is right it's probably a load range E tire but ours is one of the heaviest Montanas and it came with load range D tires (go figure). They are rated to handle the load so it's not a problem but max psi is 65 on these tires.

Our 2001 2955RL has load range E with 80psi max and that's what we run them at.

All are in agreement here, inflate the tires to the max. stated pressure rating on the tire.

Ours is a 2005 2955RL. We have the original tires from purchase new. I just checked again because our situation seems so different. Here it is, just verified. There is a "plate" (decal)nattached near the left front outside of the RV which gives explicit instructions about the tires. Is reads "65 PSI Cold". I just checked the tires, and there again "65 PSI Cold". We have traveled over 30000 miles following these instruction and the tires show very little wear, and no uneven wear at all.

I just checked the "Plate" on our 2003 2955RL and it states to inflate to 80 psi. That is the pressure I keep in them.
BTW the tires are load range E.

The plate on my 03 2955RL states D tires with 65 psi. Actually the 5er came with E tires, not the D as indicated on the plate. May need to look closely at your tires as well as the plate. 80 psi for the E rated tires.

Definitely check the tires, don't trust the plate. If the tires say 80 then use 80

Ours is the reverse of Thunderman's. The plate on the side says we have load range E tires but the Montana was delivered with load range D tires. Despite reassurances from the dealer I called Keystone who told me to check the sidewalls for the weight rating. Sure enough, this size LR D tire is rated for 3000 pounds, which meets the needs with a 6000 lb axle. BUT, the LR D tires are also why we didn't get new tires from Keystone to replace our worn ones when they replaced our axles. They didn't have any more LR D tires is what I was told so we ended up paying for the replacements. Oh, well, life goes on.

I run ours at the max, 65 in our case, also.

Always inflate your tires to the "Cold PSI" listed on the tire. This will give you maximum wear on the tire and best safety. The tire manufacturer says that this is the optimum pressure for that tire. Remember the hassle between Ford and Firestone? Ford said the tires should be inflated for best ride and Firestone said, no, they should be inflated for maximum safety and wear.

I go with 80PSI in mine. Check the tire itself first!! Here is helpful link from TireRack http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...&currentpage=1

The plate may be correct, maybe not??? Look at the tires and see what they say for max rated PSI. That's the only way to be sure. service to max rated PSI for ware and safety. Under inflated tires are a hazard as excessive loads can be put on the sidewalls and cause the tire to fail.

Inflating tires to the max psi as shown on a tire is not necessarily correct and an overinflated tire can be just as unsafe as an underinlfated tire.

The following is copied from an earlier post...

BTW-Just because a tire is rated at a maximum inflation of 80 psi does not mean they should be inflated to 80 psi if the maximum weight for that tire is not met.
For instance the LT235/85R16 Load Range "E" tire (as used on most newer Montys)at 80PSI has a MAX load capacity of 3042#, at 75 PSI the load cap is 2905# and at 70 PSI it's 2765.
The same size tire in load range "D" with an inflation of 65 PSI carries a max load of 2623#, at 60 PSI the load would be 2485 and at 55 PSI it's 2335.

Here is a PDF link to RV Load and Inflation Tables
