Phil, small world. We had just spent 2 weeks in H2 before coming down for the rally. Sorry we won't be there to lunch/dinner. Cottonwood is a great area and if you havn't yet go to one of Scotts manager meetings. He's one of the best. There is a great 50s/60s burger place in old town right at the corner. Has old gas pumps out front. Have a great time.

Bob, Scott is a hoot, Have you heard his diatribe about the dogs? It was great. I drove into Old Town and did see the burger place you mentioned. I will be going back there tomorrow with the DW, hopefully we can eat there. Sorry we missed you.....

If you're looking for good Mexican food we can recommend Conchos. It is located on the north west corner of old town. It's right across from a store called Old Hippies..... or something like that.

The food is great and don't be afraid to ask for stuff the way you like it. And if you like flan then this is the place. The night we were there they had about 5 or 6 different flavors! It was the best I've ever had.

If you're lucky the peacocks will show off for you.

Dennis

Dennis, Saw it yesterday, will try that. The store is called "Tho Old Hippie Emporium". Need to step in there and see if it brings back memories of living in San Francisco in 1966, I'm sure it will!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the great info!!!!

Phil, that burger place is good. We ate there. We just left Camp Verde, just down the road, last Monday after a two month stay.

49merc, wish we'd known you were there. We were at Distant Drums just north of Camp Verde, across from the big Casino.

You guys in Cottonwood, the best price we found for diesel in the Cottonwood area is at the Spirit station on 260 going towards I-17 (east?). It's on the north side at the very last traffic light as you go out of town. Two or three lights or so beyond the walmart supercenter. Fill your tank, take your receipt inside (or pay inside) and you'll get a cash rebate of 8 cents per gallon. You have to ask for it. The pumps are set at the commercial vehicle tax rate. There's a fine print sticker on the pump. A couple of other stations in Cottonwood do the same thing.

If you get the chance, the drive from Jerome to Prescott is gorgeous. I hope you enjoy the area as much as we did. Crusty's Pizza in Camp Verde is excellent.

Dennis, Ate at Conchos today! Great carne asada. Also visited "Ye Ole Hippie Emporium" for a look see. Wasn't impressed there.

Steve, We will be eating at "Willys" the burger place also. Made the drive from Cottonwood to Jerome to Prescott, What a ride, We will be going back to spend some time in Jerome also.

Anyone take the train ride out of Clarkdale??? How was it?????

Off to Prescott tomorrow to visit the VA Clinic for Cathy. Prescott has really grown since my last visit there (1991?).

Love this area......

I think Parrothead took that train earlier this year. You could email Sue and Ed in case they don't see this.

Agree on Conchos. We were with Dennis and Mary Kay when they ate there and agree with their opinion. The Flan was outstanding as was the food in general. And as Dennis said they'll fix what you want, if they can. Just ask. They even did a shrimp enchilada for one member of our party even though that's not on the menu.

Phil and Kathy

We enjoyed the train ride out of Clarkdale, actually better than the train ride to the Canyon. We will be coming through Camp Verde Thursday or Friday on our way to Munds Park for the weekend.........we will try to stop and see you. I am not sure if we have eaten at Conchos or not. We are always looking for a place to eat on our way up. The pizza is pretty good in the Bashas shopping center, Crustys. We ate at a Mexican Restaurant downtown but can't remember the name. There is not a whole lot in Camp Verde, but lots of good restaurants in Flagstaff and Sedona. We always like Murphy's Grill in Prescott. Enjoy your stay. Karen

Karen, Looking forward to it. Give me a call when you know for sure when you are coming so we can set a time, I have to make sure I am not playing pickleball.....Or geocaching, or swimming, or anyone of a number of other things.......

Steve, Ate at Willys today, That is the 50's style hamburger joint. Burger and home made potato chips plus onion rings. The only problem was they had gas price signs that read 1.60 and 1.65, That surely wasn't the prices in the 50's as you well know. Great ambience though and good food.....
