Longest You Have Kept An RV? - Montana Owners Club

Just wondering what is the longest anyone has kept one RV? We had our first and it was used, we kept it for 3 years then purchased our 1st fifthwheel and had that for 5 years. Seems we out grew each of them.

We kept our last one 7 years it as a 1996 Wilderness 29s ans sold it we I puchased my 2004 3295rk in June of 2003, If it was up to the wife we would still have it. I'll take the Montana any day. Roman

We kept our 1996 29R Terry TT 10 years.. by design.. as well as our 1996 Chevy TV. We did just as much research in choosing that combination as we did choosing the one we have now. We knew that Both of us would be retired by fall of 2006 and began planning in 1996 to have everything we needed paid for by that time..We did.We had campers before 1996 and never kept one for more than two years or so.

I kept my Mountaineer 315RLS for 2 years, then bought my Montana 3400RL. This is going on my 3rd summer with the coach, I am always looking...

We bought our 2955 in May of 2002 so that puts us at four years and counting. We would have considered trading for a later model but the changes come out negative for us. There are some improvements to be sure, but there are also losses as far as we are concerned; a major one being the lack of real doors between the bedroom and the bath. For some the king size bed is worth it; not for us. That one thing has kept us from considering a new Montana. As far as the model, we still find the 2955 the best for us. We really do not need or want a larger model for our kind of travel.

We bought a 27' Travelite in 1990, made by the same outfit that makes Alpenlite.Not a bad FW for its time,had it until we found our 2001 2955RL in August of 2003.Best thing ever was finding our Montana.

It seems by the last few posts that we have failed. In the last 18 years we have had 6 Rv's (1 camper, 2 travel trailers and 3 Fifth wheels) and who knows when we will change again and hopefully not soon....having said that we do love our Monty

We had our last 5ver for 9 years. Funny thing seems like the bigger and fancier and more expensive they get, the less people they sleep. That's been going on since I was a kid and my parents started upgrading.

Our fist only a few years, the 2nd 8 years. Neither can compare to the Monty. We hope to have ours for many years.

We started with a pop up trailer (5 yrs), then a 26 ft Sportsmen TT (8 yrs), Montana 3400 2 yrs. We hope to keep this for many years.

It took us 3 times to get it right. We actually started with a popup trailer back when we lived in Indiana in the early '70's. We sold it after we came to Oregon and used a tent for a few years, then decided motels suited us. A few years back we decided it would be fun to get back into an RV and started with a 27-ft travel trailer, no slides, a Jayco. It was a nice trailer but too small. We only had it a year. We then bought a 5th wheel with one slide, a Komfort, but we wanted a slightly larger one without the additional step into the bedroom and one more chair, so after 2 years with it we bought our 2955 in 2004 and love it, doubt we will change anytime soon or ever, and we agree about the door. We don't want a king bed if it means giving up the door.

The last one we had a ( Terry )it was supose to be the "Last One," HA. but we have a much better one now, we hope to keep this one for the duration of the loan 10 yrs. 8 to go. plus I need good health to be able to do the RV thing, that is the other deciding factor on how long we keep this Monty. If I cant drive it we'll sell it. hopefully I stay in good health.

Longest was 7 years, our first camper, the pop-up of course.

How about the shortest amount of time? 8 Months! Our first and last Travel Trailer! Now matter what we did, could not get it to pull and track correctly. Had 4 different RV shops try to adjust and re-adjust the Sway, Weight Dist, and reciever with no significant improvement. It was brand new, even put new tires on the Trailer and TV (F350) with no luck. Still swayed all over the place. We normally travel 10-15K miles per year. I have pulled numerous Equipment Trailers, Goosenecks, etc for work never with a handling problem like this TT had. For some reason, this particular TT (Layton 2950) just would not track safely no matter what I did.

Since we enjoy camping and traveling safely with as little stress as possible, we finally traded in the TT for the Monty (34PHT) and love it. Hope to keep it 10 year or more.

Reading through these posts, we're relative newcomers to fifthwheels!

Not counting tents and slidein campers, the first fifthwheel was purchased used in early 1994. That was a 1985 Wilderness 24 1/2 footer. We kept that for five years. We traded it for a new 1999 Jayco Eagle 255BH fifthwheel, off the lot, in July 1999. We quickly discovered we (I) didn't like the layout (not at all comfortable for me) so had it only 18 months. In January 2001 we purchased a new Montana off the lot, a 2880RL. In May 2002 we ordered the 3295RK we currently own and took delivery in July of that year.

Like Padre, we would love to have the upgrades of a new Montana but can't get past the missing doors and also not being able to isolate the bathroom vanity from the bedroom. We could probably live with a sliding divider between bedroom and bath area but would need that sink on the bathroom side. Just fits our lifestyle better. The infamous offer I can't refuse might make me rethink that, though, but I don't think any dealer is going to make that sweet a deal.

We bought our first RV Nov 2001 a Jayco 5er. Traded up to our Monty Last Nov. The plan is to keep this one and our TV 10 years.

Years ago when the boys were still home we had a 13ft Shasta, then a 18ft Terry and finally a 23ft Shasta. There was a lull in camping for about 15 years, then we started again. Since we have had a 26ft Salem tt and then a 30ft Salem 5er and of course now the Monty,which is the best we have had. We are going full time soon and if we like it we may go with a new 3400. Sorry for the long post... Jack & Janet
