Garmin GPS Software

If you have a Garmin GPS and the Mapsource software, go to Garmin's web site and get a copy of their software "NRouter". I just took two trips and IMO the software is worth it.

The first reason I like it is that after you set up a destination and it calculates the route, the software shows the next direction in large type at the top of the screen.

The second function I like is the ability to selce "Show vessel" and "Show next directiion". What this does is show where you are and shows the next direction you will be taking. As you approach the next change in direction the view zooms in. After you make the change it zooms back out to show where you are and the next turn.

The software also provide audio directions and it's very clear.

Been using that software with the Garman GPS-18 for about one year and am very satisfied with it.Also if you come across a detour the software will automatically pick up on it and recalculate without any input from you.It is also very user friendly. We found that it may not find some out of the way places but you can way point back to it or use lat/long to find it. The Garman web site also has a automatic updater that keep your software up to date.. There are a couple of others that a are also very good but IMHO not as user friendly. Actually being retired from Air Traffic Control the disply looks a lot like the air traffic display..Maybe thats why Helen likes it....
