2004 2980 - Montana Owners Club

Hi everyone. We have had a busy summer, done a lot of camping and it's time to get back to my day to day routines. During the summer I haven't checked into the forum much so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Some great news!!! I'm finally going to take the plunge and retire in Dec. Next year I look forward to spending a lot of time in the Monty. Glenda still has a couple of years left to work and I'm sure she has plans for me.

Anyway, we are currently looking at a 2004 or 5 2980. I would appreciate hearing the likes and dislikes from those already owning one. Is anything I should look out for in particular? What are best options you folks have and use?

Congratulation on your decidsion to retire, I retired August 1 of this year and loving it. I also own the 2980rl and love it too. Some have problems with leakage in the bed room from the seals on the slide. Nothing to worry about the dealer took care of that. some units had to have the seals replaced. It's a good unit.
Ask the dealer to SHOW u the bypass valve not the location.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Good tip on the bypass valve. I saw a plastic cover near the floor on one of the kitchen cabinets and figured it was probably the water pump. What an odd place to have to winterize the system.

We've looked at some Carriage products. Nice units but expensive. They have the pump inside one of the outside compartments. That seemed like a great place for it.

Congratulations on retirement we did the same thing on May 17th and are just waiting to get things wraped up then it's on the road for us. Can't help you with the 2980 we have the 3280RL but I understand that it is a great unit.

Congrats on the retirement--we know you earned it!! As to the 2980RL--you may find that you want to unbolt the table and rotate it 90 degrees and then rebolt it. This will allow you to get to the frig while the slides are in. (You may have to leave two chairs in storage to accomplish this.) Obviously you will still not be able to access the microwave--but we did not find this a major inconvenience as we can always use the ovrride switch if necessary. Having said all that, the small inconvenience is well worth the pleasure of the kitchen which we find terrific. It's actually larger than the kitchens in two of the (many!!) stickbuilt houses we have lived in. Think that you will love your Montana. Good luck and keep us posted.

Brad and Glenda: Congrats on upcoming "retirement"!

Have you made a decision on your new Montana? We enjoy our 2980 especially the kitchen. There is so much counter space. Also like the feature of sliding doors in the bathroom area - you can create a private bath. We have had only one annoying problem - leakage in the corner of the dinette slide. Have had it back to our dealer two times and leakage is getting better (less wetness when it rains), however, it still leaks. Going back for third time next month and hopefully the third time will be the charm!

Overall we are pleased with our 2980.

Hi Vickster. We haven't decided yet which model we'll buy. We sold our 2750 a week ago and the new owner picks her up this Friday. Glenda and I are going to wait until Dec to order. I understand there are 4 new floor plans coming. If none suit us then the 2980 goes on order.

Has anyone bought the slider tray for the pass through storage area in the 2980???? In looking at this area it strikes me that an 18" slider tray would take up more room itself than the value it would add. I would really appreciate others thoughts on this option.

We did not order the slider tray. Like you Brad, felt it took up too much precious room in the basement.

Thanks for the warning BillyRay. Glenda works at the same company I do and her desk is not too far from mine. Some of the gals I work with have already conspired with Glenda on all kinds of jobs I can do after I retire.

A friend of mine owns the local Montana dealership and I may take a part time job there starting in the spring, maybe doing delivery of trailers to their new owners. Will have to wait and see.

Chester, here's some info I picked up talking to a couple of Keystone reps. The dates are probably something that could move. I was told the Big Sky is going away, to be replaced by another that will be intended as a fulltimer's unit. I don't know exactly what that means. Word is it will be available possibly by November, or by year end. Keep in mind this was all verbal and nothing was stated as being 100% solid.

Thanks Steve. I will have to keep my ears open. My friend that owns the Montana dealership says the new models should be at a show in Kentucky (I think he said) on Dec 2. I've asked him to take pictures since we won't get to see a real unit until after we've ordered.
