Could not believe it

Bought the kingpin protection catch in case I goof and don't lock the pin in. Well I put it on Saturday which was easy to do. After I was done I figured I would check all the nuts and bolts on the new Reese hitch. Now I only towed the new rv about 40 miles total. Every bolt was way loose except for some of the frame bolts. Could not believe it. Who installs a hitch and doesn't check their work. Some of those nuts turned a good 1 1/2 turns. Service these days is terrible. Glad I am handy. Aarrgghhhhhhh!!!!!!!

I did not check my hitch mount bolts until a year after buying the Monte, several trips, and a couple thousand miles. Dealer had installed the hitch. All were loose. Two the nuts were nearly off. Scary. Torqued them all. Checked often for a while but they never loosened again.

Sadly a sign of the times. Piece of mind can only be achieved when I double check these type of things for myself. One shouldn't have to but.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be sure to check everything in the spring when I put the hitch back in the truck.

We're glad you caught it before you had any damage.

That is a good reminder. I checked mine after a couple of trips when first installed but haven't checked it since. I will be putting that on the TO-Do list.

Well we were lucky on that. Both Hitch installations on both our Ford Trucks installed by dealers were perfect nothing loose .We do check most every year at the fall rally. It is a good idea to check.

i will be putting that on my check list for sure. can't believe that something that critical was never given 100% by the person doing the install!

I have noticed that after taking the hitch out and reinstalling, I can torque to spec, but after towing round trip a few hours each way, it is in need of re-torquing. So I put that on my list each trip along with lug nut torquing.
