Canyon De Chelle

Hope to travel from Cottonwood AZ to Canyon De Chelle and then to Bryce Canyon. Any suggestions on where to stay and what routes to take would be greatly appreciated.

If you are camping there is a free campground behind the visitor center near the Thunderbird Lodge. There are no hookups but there is water throughout the park. You cannot enter the campground without an Indian guide and we highly recommend it. To get there from Cottonwood I would take I-40 east to US 191 and up to Chinle. To get from there to Bryce I would take 191 north to US 160, southwest to hwy 98, up to Page where you pick up US 89, north on 89 to the hwy going to Bryce. We have taken all of these roads and can vouch for them. If you travel this route you will pass by Monument Valley which is only a 24 mile detour and well worth it. There is a commercial campground close by but we were able to dry camp near the visitor center for $10 a night

We need electricity as we are not set up for dry camping. Wife has sleep apnea machine so I'm looking for an rv park close by with power.

There is a nice CG in Bluff, UT (Cadillac Ranch). It is a good drive to Canyon de Chelly and Monument Valley though but there doesn't seem to anything closer that I know of with FHU.

Your choice on getting to Bryce. I would probably go down 160 to AZ 98, then to Page and hook into US 89.

There really is no short way to go!
