It would seem to me that those who have 3/4 ton trucks that are fully under GVWR and GCWR but over on pin weight may have a legitimate reason to just beef up the rear springs with added components rather than go to the expense of buying a 1 ton SRW or 1 Ton dually. Different strokes for different folks.
Odds are that if you are over on the pin weight...you are over GVWR.

Karbrys,
I had a 2006 Chevy 2500HD with the Duramax/Allison combo. On the door sticker it said the truck will carry a total cargo of 2440 pounds. With my weight of 200 lbs, the hitch weight of 300 pounds, the wife's weight of (hell No!) plus a tool box with 2 Honda 2k generators I was was well overweight. At that point I had 3000 pounds in the bed. Air bags leveled the truck nicely but I was still overloaded. I decided to trade it in for a 3500HD. I took a hit in the wallet but the ride is a heck of a lot better (and maybe in an emergency safer). I'm sure the truck can move a 20,000 pound trailer but only you can make the choice on safety.

Two reminders that have been posted before:

- The cargo capacity for any vehicle made from 2005 and newer, can be found on the Tire and Loading Information sticker normally located on the driver's side on one of the pillars.

- Towing capacity = the GCWR - the weight of the TV when ready to tow.

And of course the one thing that makes a 2500 series truck marginal for a Montana is the RV's pin wieght...the 2500 will 'tow' if fine, but can't take the heavy pin weight and stay within specs.
