Blackstone Labs Report

I just got my 50,000 mile oil report back from Blackstone Labs. From the 30,000 mile report with the DPF on all of the medal readings, aluminum, chromium, iron, and lead all went down by about one half or more. Fuel in oil went from 13% to less than 1/2%. Less than 2% is recommended and I had over 6 times that. The additives in the oil were still in the good range. The low limit is 1 and mine were 6.5, So the oil additive package was still doing it's job. The oil I use is Mobil Delvac 1 synthetic. I'm pleased with this new report.
Lynwood.

Thanks for the report. I use Valvoline blue premium as recommended by Cummins. Time will tell if that choice was the right one.

Jay a good oil report will tell you a lot quicker without wearing out your engine. Blackstone will spot potential problems before they become a major disaster and at $25 its cheap insurance.

Blackstone does oil analysis for engines, transmissions, etc. They can tell you if something is wearing, water, fuel in the oil, how the additives are holding up so you know how far you can go between oil changes. They will send you a container to place a sample in for free. Their service is fast and efficient.

I just ordered my kit from Blackstone. Thanks for the info. As well as my truck has taken care of me I guess I can invest $25 in keeping "her" healthy.

had a report done at @ 20K miles and and another done at @ 45K miles changing nothing in terms of oil, additives or fuel and the 45k report was much better than the 20K report.

I have used a couple of these companies Blackstone makes it so easy. Go on line they will send a sample kit. Fill the bottle up fill out the form, sent it back and in a few days the report will appear as a email. The cost is $25 or $35 if you would like the oil additives checked.
I would think that if you have a DPF the fuel in oil would be elevated, and you would also have elevated levels of aluminum and iron.
Rich how did your fuel in oil come back?

How do you get a sample if you are between oil changes? They mention something about a pump. Where would you get one?
Thanks.

Most people just get a sample when they change oil, but like Charlie said you can get a pump. Be careful I don't think one would work with my truck.

If you have one of these installed, sampling is easy! http://www.fumotousa.com/
I have them on my truck and car. Oil changes are much easier and cleaner.

The vacuum pump goes in the dipstick tube.

I can see the pump working for the trans oil, but the engine oil? This would be nice for if I ever overfill my trans reservoir, I can pump some back out. I think what "mlh" is referring to is when I look down my crankcase oil fill cap all I see is a bunch of metal (valves, etc.), not the oil reservoir so I don't think this pump would work for my engine oil. However, I do have one of those Fumoto levers for draining the oil, so I can open this for a second or two to collect oil for a sampling.

To me, $30 seems a little too high for this pump. I'd look around for a cheaper alternative.

No, we don't need to check our oil the new Fords make oil so why check it? But then the new Dodges make oil to, and thats why you should have it checked if you have a new Dodge Ford or Chevy. Most new trucks 2008 or newer at 5000 miles will have more oil in the oil pan than you put in. I have herd of them having 3 1/2 quarts extra. According to people who check oil and make the engines the only thing worse than fuel in the oil is water in the oil. Come to think of it maybe its not such a bad idea to check your oil once in a while and have it checked by someone like Blackstone.
