NJ Garden State Parkway

We are travelling NYC to Port Republic, NJ tomorrow and I understand that we are allowed to tow on the GSP however I have noted people talking elsewhere (rv.net) about low bridges between exits 131 and 138. We are 13'6". Can anyone advise whether we should avoid that section.

thanks
Craig

You are allowed to tow on the Parkway. there are a couple of low bridges but they are only low in the right shoulder and right hand lane. If you stay at least one lane from the right you should be good.
You might not have EZ Pass but if you do it makes it muuuch easier. Try to avid it during the commute. Traffic is horrible. I did it many times because it was the best game in town for us.

Many thanks, that is a relief, the alternatives looked very slow.

Cheers

Yes...Garden State Parkway is a pain with all the toll booths, very frequent at north end and less frequent at southern end. We have traveled it often as choices are limited when wanting to camp near the coast.
I hate the northern end so much that I typically run down I287 even though it is distance-wise a longer trip. As mentioned time and day of week matter as traffic can be just plain ugly.

Well we made it OK. Definitely need to watch the low bridges between Exits 138 and 131 but OK if travel in the middle lane. Cost from about mile 143 to 48 was $17.50. Traffic was heavy all the way (we traveled on Saturday and I would hate to see what it is like during the week) and car drivers were often as bad as we have seen in places like Detroit and Chicago.
