Easy store sewer boom
DW & I were looking at the 09 3455SA Hickory edition today. Impressive new features, side by side refer, 40" Sony flat panel, 19" 12v bedroom TV that easily moves and docs into the basement, a light switch on front door that turns on interior lights, full function remote for all systems, etc..
Has anyone checked out or used the new sewer boom? Looks like a great idea, hose is stored and connected in place. I'm wondering how functional it might be?
Were considering trading in our 08 3400...it's going to be expensive if we do...DW loves the bathroom...I'm impressed with the new features....tempting!

Ken, for what it is worth we traded in a new Montana that was 11 months old for the unit we have now. You are right it hurts the pocket book but we both are pleased we did it and would do it again.

Hey Ken, I have a 3455sa on order. Trading in a 2007 3000rk, used two seasons. I think stepping up to four slides, separate bath, and a bedroom with a door is worth the extra money. As for the sewer boom,I'm undecided. I like making sure the hose is completely rinsed out and clean as possible. We will see. I have a bigger issue that i'm talking to Keystone tommorow. The galley waste gate handle is directly above the left rear tire. Yesterday we went to the dealer and noticed this. With the slides in, you can bearly grab it to pull, let alone push it back in. Those gate handles do run on a cable I'm told so they should be able to move it 16 inches back behind the tire and slide. Dealer agrees with me so hopefully I'll get an answer. Tom.

We were over yesterday to Tiara RV and Rollin On in Indiana. The new Hickory Editions are really nice. I brought the camera and forgot to even get it out. The sewer boom is similar to one of our MOC members had made for his unit. We hope to order a 365 Big Sky this week. The first 2010 comes off the line tomorrow and if Arum signs off they will be building. We have '05 3400 and it looks like now is the time to deal. Despite a hefty downpayment and five years of payments we are underwater due to the economy. But, the same is true of the new ones - hard to believe the discounts. The new Hickory Edition isn't as big of an upgrade as the 10th Anniversary Edition, but the features noted by Ken are quite impressive.

I don't need a picture, I have the boom on my rig! I'll go snap a pic and post it up later, if somebody doesn't beat me to it. Personally, I think is kind of worthless, as it is too short to hold a standard sewer hose and it does not pivot down to the ground when deployed. If I can find the same size and type of plastic tube, I might put a longer section of it on there and modify so it will pivot down (simple to do I think), so it works like a slunky.

KtManiac,
I was thinking the same thing. I measured the boom with the flex and it doesn't look much longer that 36 to 40in, far too short for the 15' Rhino I now use...I think you're right...a mod in order....we bit the bullet and traded in today!!
Tom,
I looked all over for a 3rd valve and couldn't find it. I went underneath and it looked like there were only 2 tanks, a black and grey...am I missing the 3rd???

I seen one at the RV show and was not impressed the one I seen was in a Monty in the FV show in Q-site. it looked very close to the front tire street side and was hard to move around I prefer my rain gutter and bungy straps it works for me anyway.

Ken, if your 2008 is the same as our 2007 3400RL, the third handle is tucked between the wheels on the sewer side. You have four tanks. One is the fresh water tank, one is the black tank, one is the bath (shower and lavatory) gray tank, and the fourth is the galley gray tank. The galley tank dump pipe is the smaller pipe coming from under the kitchen. It junctions into the main dump pipe.
The black tank and the bath gray junction into the main dump pipe in the belly, above the bellypan. So you can't see both without dropping the bellypan.
If you have the washer/dryer prep, then you also have a small dump pipe coming from under that closet and junctioning into the main dump pipe.
Hope this helps a little.
I'd also like to see a picture of that boom, if anyone has a picture. Thanks.

We have the sewer boom on our 3400RL. I was a bit disappointed that it wouldn't hold more than about 10' of hose when I have the clear flush connection on. It's also a pain to move the flexible portion to see if the water is running clear. I'd just as soon have a sewer storage than the sewer boom.

KT Maniac -
Tanks for the photos. We looked very closely at the 3605. It's a great floor plan. If the Big Sky came in that floor plan, we might have been ordering a 3605.

Not a bad idea but seems to me it's just another place to develop a leak in the flex part of the boom! I'll stick with my straight pipe and the slinky and flex to the drain!

KT,
Let us know what you come up with for your modification. I have been thinking about what to do with it when we pick up the 3455 in a month or so. My first thought was to just remove it altogether (but then that would be the easy way out) Keep us posted!!!! Thanks,
Jack

Your regular sewer hose just fits inside of the boom and stays hooked up to the 5er all of the time. The boom itself does not see sewage at any time, the only way it could is if your regular hose has a leak.

The main part of the boom bracket is welded to the frame, as you can see in the upper portion of this pic. You could remove the cotter pin and pull the pivot pin to remove the pipe part, .... >>>
....but that would still leave the boom clamp hanging out there in the wind, as seen in this pic. >>>>
Unless you hack it off. I think I will try to mod it into something better and more useful.

Just an FYI, the sewer boom came as a result of a mod made by one of our MOC members that was seen at the Goshen rally in 2007 durig show and tell. It is similar to one that comes on some motorhomes. Keystone was at the rally and took lots of pictures. I believe the original intent was to provide an easy storage method for the first length of hose, without the need to disconnect. In addition, you can then conveniently pull up to the dump station, swing the boom away and dump without any connection or disconnection. It is one of the features I'm looking forward to when we get our new Big Sky.
