Fenders & Cracks

Need advice on fender skirt fastners for a 2002 Montana 3255RL, had them replaced on one side (fastners after a blowout) they came loose and the skirt flaps in the breeze.

Also have a stress crack on bedroom slide, what to do, where to do it, etc.

I lost 4 of the screws from my fender skirts while traveling on the East Coast this year. I used some small short bolts and nuts with lock washers to replace them. They have stayed tight ever since. The sheet metal screws they use come loose from vibration and flapping in the wind while traveling. I beleive the bolts were #8X3/4.

One thing you can do since your unit is out of warranty is to drill a small hole (1/8") at the end of the crack to prevent it from going any further. If it isn't too long, you can cover it with a piece of flat sheet metal (painted white) or a thin strip of white fiberglass material. If you don't have any type of material to cover the crack, be sure to put some caulking material in the hole and/or white epoxy material to keep out any possibility of moisture getting in.

Our dealer has fixed several units with these stress cracks and no one can tell there was a crack.

I used a 1 in piece of acquarium hose and just twisted it onto all the screws. They haven't loosened up since. You might also try small screws and a nylock nut to hold them tight. Nylock's don't vibrate loose.
