Best method to install shelf
Need help!!!! I want to install a small wood shelf on the bathroom wall. It measures 15" x 4" x 3". I want the shelf to hold 5 pounds. It has a "keyhole" fixture on the back of the shelf that typically attaches onto a screw. What is the best way to install the shelf? ie: molly, reg screw, glue???
Thanks for everyone's hep!!!!

Without seeing the shelf I can't say exactly how to mount it. But is the key hole in the middle? If yes can you get the shelf to line up with a stud? If not how about putting a screw in the wall, prefer a fat one..lol, and then on the top and sides I would use some Velcro. It really helps to hold that weight up. Some have used the tape that you put on and if you want it off just pull from a corner and it releases. Good luck

I have used these baby's with success, you can get metal or plastic. I hung shelves for customers in their kitchens.

Good luck!
I would add that I usually pilot drill the size of the body of the screw-in anchor I use, often the tip breaks off when drilling the walls without the pilot drill..

What Ozz said! Have used the white plastic anchors in the interior walls in the past. They work well. Measure twice, screw them in once!

I use "Command Strips" they will hold the weight and can be removed without leaving a mark. Available at CW, Lowes, Walmart.

While the command strips are good for hanging pictures and the like, they do not really work well on floating shelves which need to be secured to the wall to prevent them from being loose. I still side with the Ozz method, however, this method will leave holes in the wall if the shelves are ever removed.

Very, very, very carefully......
Command hooks are great for coats, etc. Not so good for "floating shelves"

That is what was confusing me. Some are recommending Command Strips, yet as far as I know, there is no Command Strip made for the application the OP asked about. If there is one made, I would like to know since I would most likely have a use for it!
