Rubber Gaskets

Going to clean outside the RV soon. The rubber gaskets are hard to keep from mildewing. Have you any ideas how to remove mildew and maintain? Bleach water does not seem to faze them....

If you keep them lubed with silicon spray, they shouldn't mildew. Kerry

remove them and put them in a 5-gal pail with a cup of bleach and about 3 to 4 gals of water and let soak over night and they will be like new .I do this every year.

Some people have opted to just replace them. The time is the same to remove and reinstall but you save the wait time for the bleach to work as well as the cost of the bleach. If you buy big rolls it is not very expensive per foot. Jim C.

Which rubber gaskets are you talking about?

I think they're talking about the white trim moulding such as found around the front door.

If they are the trim that connects the panels, take Dawn dishwashing liquid and clean with that. I also use a small gentle toothbrush to scrub as well. We have maintained these consistently but just discovered the Dawn.

I've tried about everything to clean mildew and the best yet was some Outdoor Bleach from Lowes. Our vinyl inserts were black and nothing would scratch it. I wiped them with some Outdoor Bleach and left it on and they turned white and looked good as new. I learned this info from the best source in the world, Montana Owners Club...!

If you use Dawn, make sure it's BLUE Dawn. It has no citrus in it so the critters won't be pecking at the trailer looking for the fruit.

I have used the "Awesome" product available at the Dollar Stores. Spray on full strength and IMEDIATELY wipe them down, then rinse with water. I then protect them with "Protectall". Seem to be staying pretty white. Careful with the Awesome on anything else. I usually dilute it for black streaks and it works great, BUT must remember to rinse good.... Hope this helps........
