Where do full timers do repairs/work on their rigs??

I've read a few posts about full-timers doing major repairs/work on their rigs.
Where are the full-timers rigs parked while they are removing the underbelly and chasing wires/leaks, replacing tanks, and other under the trailer stuff?

Just Curious,

If in RV park it would be a good idea to check with the office before tearing into any significant repair. They may have rules about it. They would probably be more receptive to a mobile RV repair doing it than a do-it-yourselfer.

I don't care what the campground thinks, they are not the ones paying the bill. There is no way I'm paying an a so called RV tech to fix something I can take care of. Why should the campground care who fixes it ?

Have never had an issue doing a repair in any campground. On occasion even experienced campground staff and other campers asking if I needed help. Just keep everything as neat as possible.

We were recently at a park we had stayed at numerous times in the past, but this time was handed an extra paper that listed things not allowed, and in addition to no fireworks and firearms, was the statement that no work requiring powertools, lubricants, chemicals, and a number of other things was not allowed. I discovered while still there that there had been a really long term resident in the park that had gone so far to be pulling engines and rebuilding them in the park. They had a difficult time evicting him, but in doing so, had to involve lawyers and law enforcement, and this is why the rules had to be drawn up. I don't think they were enforcing the rules too much, because the neighbor next to us pulled his wheels and repacked his bearings, and nothing was said. It is best to check with the management just to be safe, even if they required you to move the rig temporarily to a storage area to do the work.

If it's a place I might want to come back to I would care. Besides, if they have rules it's because of something that happened in the past. Like the park that told me about a sewer line repair that resulted in the contents of the black tank on the ground. Or the other park I was in who had the waste oil bucket from a class A oil change dumped over on the gravel.

I was not thinking of MAJOR repairs like rebuilding a motor and such. I was thinking more on the lines of a bearing repack/ Install a new spring/ Add some JT strong arms/new pin box. Things of that nature.

It would be hard to enforce a rule that allowed some repairs and not others unless you specifically itemized everything allowed and everything not allowed. There will always be someone who will try to bend (or ignore) those rules and the subsequent issue of evicting them. At least rules provide a legitimate basis to kick someone out. A simple “No repairs or maintenance allowed on premises without prior consent of management” rule might work. Then they could control what they felt was acceptable and maybe stop an unacceptable repair before it started. No doubt just one of the many headaches of catering to the public.

In the park we stay at I’ve seen black tanks replaced, refrigerators replaced, wheel bearings repacked. Some being done by the owner and some being done by the local mobile RV technician. Have also seen diy oil changes.

In the past we stayed at a very nice park in Flagstaff. Their rules are NO REPAIRS. I needed to replace a tire due to an earlier flat. They would not let a road service or myself do the remounting of my new tire. I asked in the office and the wife said her husband would kick us out if we did anything. Needless to say, we skip Flagstaff on our travels--maybe others do also.

I can understand a no repair rule. But not allowing a tire repair/replace is a bit extreme. If you have a tire go flat while in the park are you supposed to tow your RV to a tire shop? Or drive a MH on a flat?

It is better to ask forgiveness than permission...................lol
I do all the repairs on our unit, most parks have rules about repairs but few are enforced unless there is an issue.
Same goes for washing of units............

Even washing can be an issue. Was in an RV park in San Antonio several years ago when a guy across road from us washed his 5er. Flooded his site as well as the sites on both sides of him. He still had to wade thru water to his door a couple hours later. Don’t remember if they had a rule or not. But probably had one after that.

You need to ask to wash in our winter park because we have water restrictions put on us by the state and we have RO water so usually it's ok, but if it's not ok it's really not ok.

Just remember, we are the one's who cause the rules to be written by the things we do at rv parks. If you stay in a park with concrete pads then there rules will probably be a little more restrictive than one with gravel or dirt. I'm not full time so i can do all my general maintenance at home but i understand the need to have a place to do maintenance and repairs when full time. Changing a tire at a rv park is something i would not even ask the owner or manager about. If they didn't like it then i would not give them any more of my business.

RV Washing

We camped at Eagles Rest RV Park in Valdez, Alaska a couple years ago and were told that we could wash our RV if we wanted to. I was shocked that they would even tell us that. The entire campsite was gravel, nice and level, and we had a large site. It was great. BTW, I didn't wash our rig as it didn't really need it.
