Caps lights

Half of my cap lights do not work, any idea on how to replace the LED strip lights?

Bob & Sandy, I replaced all my CAP lights with Boogie Lights. But for just the factory replacement it's pretty easy. Remove the existing light strip and remove the silicone they use to adhere it with. I'm sure you can order those amber lights on line and not have to go through Keystone. The CAP light strip ties into just two wires (black & white) and should be on the right (driver's side) for the main harness. There will be a hole probably covered in silicone, where the factory power and ground wires feed in through. The two lower harnesses will have the same wiring for each strip. When removing the factory harness and cutting it from the red and black wires, do not let it fall inside the CAP or you will turn an hour long project into an all day one trying to fish that out. Oh, I recommend from Boogie Lights is their adhesion promoter that you brush on prior to sticking your light strip on. It will keep your light strips securely mounted.

Yes they can be cut at any length. You might want to get just your standard amber light string, cause when you start adding multiple colors, it requires a completely different wiring harness, with its own dedicated controller. I went this route, and it was not an easy install.

I replaced the cap strips with these:

I had to use a roll of 3M double stick tape under the strips because the strip adhesive didn't do so well in the summer heat.

I had the same problem on my 3121RL. The top lights broke close to the end and the other side came off. The bottom ones still worked. I looked into Boogie Lights, but they were way too expensive for lights I never use. So I decided to cap off the end on the top one and cover with silicone, clean out the channel and never replace them. Just using the bottom if I ever use them

Aren’t those lights required to have a power strip to supply power to them. They don’t use the wires that the original lights use?

Boogie Lights are a whole other ball game. They have their own dedicated power line and a brain unit that controls all the different colors and patterns, which are controlled with a remote.

A replacement factory single color LED strip is rather inexpensive and very easy to reinstall, and can be bought on Amazon.

I used a razor blade to carefully scrape the thin plastic coating over the pos./neg. pads that occur periodically on the strip. I soldered a wire to each to tie to the trailer wiring.
