Anyone going to be in Rockport, TX?

We plan to be there in January. Have done a little research and found a newer campground called Coastal Oaks. Wondering if there is any info from a MOC member about this one. Looking for the perfect spot to spend a month or more. Sure hate to reserve and then possibly be disappointed for that month.

We have reservations for the last two weeks in January at Bay View, a Resorts of Distinction, C2C park. We have never been to Texas before camping but have heard that there is so much to see and do in this area. Hopefully we can see you folks when we are there.

We are totally in love with the Rockport area. We were there two years ago and stayed at a nice cg but it was out of town and this time we'd like to be closer in town. I will take a look at the park you will be staying in. I wonder if two weeks will be enough for you....do you like fresh shrimp? It's abundant there. Really, really fresh! We will make a plan to get in touch while we are there. Thanks for replying.

I just want to pass on our experience with Bay View Resort (part of Western Horizon) - hope no one minds my perspective. This resort is very disappointing. It is getting very old, nothing has been updated in years, the roads are in terrible condition, the shower/bath area is nasty, the pool isn't much better. AND they charge a premium price. We lived in Rockport until 6 mos ago; our daughter and family used our RV in this park, so we have first hand knowledge. If you are able, I recommend that you find another park. I am not familiar with Coastal Oaks Park, but believe it will be much nicer than Bay View. Hope you don't mind hearing about our experience. Good luck! Rockport is a lovely town and I believe you will enjoy the people.

OH, thanks for posting this, Otto, I hope that Jim sees it. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a place you can't tolerate. It would leave a bad taste about Rockport forever. Thanks, again. Apparently Coastal Oaks is a new place (maybe 2 years)and it's somewhat close to HEB, Walmart and the new PO. We'll see. We don't even know if we can get a site there cause they were in the process of adding new sites and hoped to have them completed for January. Otherwise, we kinda liked the park that is across from Alice Faye's restaurant. But I'm sure it's full.

Thanks for the info, Otto. We will look elsewhere but our ROD rate is one that is difficult to pass up. We have heard so much good about this area that we are not planning on spending a lot of time in the campground. I see in RVParkreviews that others talk about the poor roads, etc in this park. We will be in the Rockport area for two weeks, now just not sure exactly where, yet.

We stayed at Sea Breeze RV park in Rockport the winter of 2000 for three months. Nothing fancy but we enjoyed it. Grocery stores and churches close by.

Coastal Oaks is a new one for me. I get a chance I'll swing by and take a look at it. I should be over in the Rockport area Thursday. We enjoy checking out new parks. There are constantly new parks going in around this area. There is a big new park going in right now behind the Wal Mart in Aransas Pass.

Boylanag, I think you'll like Texas. We grew up in Louisiana, but have lived in TX since 1979. Our stick house is in the piney woods of East TX, but we've been on the coast over two years now. Never run out of things to do here.

Hi Wayne-how are you doing with your therapy? Gonna be able to meet us again?
Yep, 13 days till we leave. We'll be staying at New Caney again in Forest Retreat then January head down to Rockport.

Slick, that would be great-we've had a bad experience with reserving for a month blind. But it's so much cheaper to get sites for a month rather than weeks at a time.

Rockport is a beautiful area. I have not stayed there but we make many trips up there from Port Aransas. Just south across the ferry in Port Aransas is the Pioneer Beach Resort. This is a wonderful park if you choose to go just a bit further south.

Sandy,
On the day I finished PT I jumped in the RV and went to Perrin, TX for a small rally. Stayed gone 3 weeks. Today was my check-up and the doctor said I was doing fine and to come back in a year.

Don't tell Earlene as she'll have me doing the floors again.

BTW, rumor is Los Comales restaurant is changing hands. Don't know if any of you have eaten there while in Rockport, but we love their food. Hopefully, they'll get a good chef, and retain their menu.

I need some help to ID a campground I saw on the Satelite view. It is right on 35 just south of FM 1781. Looks like a couple of miles south of the LBJ causeway. Huge campground with spaces between units, looks like a small pond on site also.

I'm thinking you are looking at the Bay View Park. It is a Western Horizons park. I've never been in the park myself. That is the park that OttoO813 posted about earlier.

Might take a look here: http://www.rockportrvparks.com/ That page lists quite a few parks. There are others also.

We love Los Comales and would be sad to hear that the change in ownership changes the food. We'll ask some friends who still live there to give us a report when they can and I'll post it on this forum! And yes that part just south of the causeway is the one I gave such a bad report on.
