Seniors May Take Another Hit!
Read in this morning's paper that the Forest Service want's to eliminate the 50% camping discount in campgrounds run by vendors. The vendors claim they loose too much money because of the discount. The problem I have with that is they knew it was there when they bid on running the campgrounds so that should have been considered in their bid. I really have to disagree with this possible action. We seniors need any breaks we can get. This is just my opinion.

Bob,
I agree! The 50% discount is not a lot of money but over time it adds up and we would hate to lose it.
On the Escapee's Forum there are several discussions about this. And the leadership is already working on some sort of action.

I hope they can do something. The Forest Service seems pretty determined to do it though. As it is at a favorite park we go to the vendors already get to separate amenities (electricity and sewer) from the 50% rate.

So cannot new bids be put out? I'm confused. If a successful bid contract is let, and not followed, why not repost for another bid. What am I missing? Tks.

I sent an e-mail to the people responsible for the article decrying the worth of it. If they take away our discount they may make even less money from less participation.

There is a pretty good article on it here: http://sedona.biz/forest-service-to-...ount120309.php
Unfortunately, this is the type of thing that often happens when government run facilities become privatized.

For an insightful analysis of the issue, take a look at

Just received notice that the Forest Service is taking public comments for 60 days on the proposed new policy. For details and links to proposal and comment submissions go to http://www.fs.fed.us/news/2009/relea...mpground.shtml
