Just picked up a 2005 Dodge 3500 diesel automatic single laramie edition with 26,400 miles.
I'm looking at putting in a larger cold air intake, banks, s&b, afe etc and also getting a 4" flo thru muffler.
Has anyone added this to their TV and what brand do you prefer, also would it help to take the converter off or just put the 4" on behind it. Not wanting to chip it.
I'm not looking to smoke the tires or get from here to there in 6 seconds, just want to increase a little horsepower and add some mileage.
any thoughts

you might want to think about adding an engine brake to your list of mods. If you can't stop your 21,000 lb +, more go won't be any benefit. My 2 cents.

I concur with what the previous 2 guys advised. The forum is a great resource for information on what mods work etc.
As you can see, I like the Banks products a LOT...well engineered and great quality. Very happy with everything I've done to my truck so far (see sig).
You may want to reconsider at some point getting a tuner of some type... way more than just "chipping it". A good programmable tuner can really help you with mileage and/or power depending on how YOU choose to program it.
Sounds like you got a great truck...LOW miles!

I have a '04.5 and have no need for more power. You should have 4" cat. back exhaust on your 'o5 as mine does. Just finished a 5200 mile trip to Montana and D.C. Could not be more pleased with my truck at 113k plus. Still no lift pump or trans problems. Enjoy your truck.

My 2005 CTD has more power than I need. I have the 410 rear end and can accellerate up steep grades. Everything is stock but the air bags and overload spring. The only thing I'd like to add is the exhaust brake.

Farmboy: FWIW if you have the lift pump on the fuel filter you are on borrowed time. Same thing on the water pump too. JMHO

Had a 2005 before the current truck. The lift pump is in the tank and very reliable. Was going to install an exhaust brake when the extended warranty ran out but traded the truck instead.

All I'm looking to do is try to get better mileage, some of the mods will increase horespower, and possoble add a exhaust brake.
Looked at the cummings forum and there is a lot of info there and it is really confusing and I would say the majority does not apply, am doing some checking around and asking alot of questions, before I do anything.

You may be right on fuel pump, but put on a water pump last fall. It really has been a trouble free truck. Older trucks of all brands lost water pumps too. JME.

150K now and on the second water pump. Changed the last one last Month on the side of the road in NV. 80miles from the nearest town. About a 1 hour job and a $50 pump (had a spare).
