2955 RL steps

Rear steps on 2955 RL hang down too far, dragging on the slightest dip in the road surface. Last dip bent the box 20 degrees from vertical, making the steps unusable. I believe a shorter assembly would solve the problem.

I have 2002 2955RL never had a problem. Are you towing level?

I also have a 2002 model 2955 and have never had a problem.. Are you folding them up before you travel??????????..JB

Ditto for us with our 2002 2955RL. No problems with the step height.

I have a 2006 2955RL have had only one time which they rubbed when leaving a campground. There have been other I thought that I would but made it.

Yes, I'm towing level, and I put the steps up, LOL! The first year we had the rig, I noticed it dragging only slightly on a couple of occasions. We have hit it pretty hard three times on this trip already, once having to straighten them before we could extend the steps. Appreciate the comments, anyone else?

I don't have your model, but in years past had a similar issue on SOB. Turned out I had some rot where the steps were located and they dropped about 3/4 of an inch. Visually your could not see the drop. The steps really did not feel spongy, but upon inspection of the underbelly, the wood attachments had swollen / expanded. Might be worth an underbelly investigation to make sure nothing has shifted.

Can you get a measurement from the ground to the back bottom side corner of the steps with it folded up??? I'll go out and measure mine on the back bottom corner with it folded up. Maybe it will tell us something.... One never knows till you try something....JB

I went outside and measured mine and it is 14 inches from the ground to rear lower corner. Don't kow if it helps or not.....JB

Yes, I have bumped them on the pavement when going over some humps in parking lots. Had to straighten them once. You might do a search. I believe there was an earlier thread on this subject. One 2955 Monty owner was talking about putting a two step set of steps on.

Gene - I had (and probably will continue to have) the same problem. I bent them twice in 4 outings. I even questioned the salesman about how low they were when we bought the thing and he said that they did not know of any problems with them. I thought of replacing them with a two step. I just keep straightening them out. As you can see by my picture, it sits pretty level- maybe up slightly. Must be those New York and Pennsylvania hills.

In three plus years, I have never scaped the steps on my 2005 2955RL. But I avoid taking a depression or low point straight on.

Don't have the 2955RL, but the steps on our Mountaineer 303RLD are in the same place. I almost ripped them off first trip we made to Fort Worth. I try to avoid serious dips now.

Thanks for the comments. I just measured my steps clearance, and came up with 11", parked and level in a campground. I have thought about the two step option, too, but so far I haven't found a set that will fit. I wonder if all the steps on Montanas are the same, or if the mfg. used steps for another model on ours?

When I measured mine, is was level by the bubble guage.. 14 inches. Maybe there are different brands. I never checked the name of them...JB
