Strong winds
We are living in our 3000rk full time down here in ne florida. Our fifth wheel is under a cover rated for 130 mph winds. when should we consider packing up the Montana and moving to safer area? what's the strongest wind gusts do you think we could go through without damage? Please share your experiences. Thank you all

This link will give you some idea what to expect. If I was living in my Montana I would be gone on a Cat. 1 storm.

I surely wouldn't wait either. Just remember what a 25 to 35 MPH crosswind can do, and your comfort level.

My question would be like the one above. What is the max wind should I be driving in?

I know mine has went through 70+ mph, usually I will fill all my holding tanks full even the fresh tank to give the unit the extra weight. I wouldn't feel comfortable in anything more than that. It is very scary, all I could think of was that it was going to flip over on its side. Don't push it, they will evacuate you first in the event of a hurricane. Unless you live inland. I lived in Florida through the 04 and 05 hurricane season, when they tell you to leave, do it to get ahead of all the traffic.LOL Good luck and be safe down there.

We were in winds in Havasu City, Az this winter that were reported to be gusting to 60MPH. We thought a couple of those gust were going to blow us over and we were very near to abandon ship.

Ours set thru all the major storms here 04 and 05, We had no option but to stay put. Two of the storms made landfall 10 miles from our home. If I had a option I would pack up and leave and go early. At least get in to the Valdosta area.

Our Monty has withstood 75 mile gust. Here at home in Colorado. Parked near our house. Wouldn't want to keep it in anything more than that.
Had the slides in.

I think if you had a warning that the hurricane was coming for example, and you had WHEELS.. I would head out of the danger area until it passes. Your luckier than most trying to scramble for a motel room. When you stuck in an area and the wind just come's up, I would do anything I could to park the truck on the side to act as a buffer. I remember I was in a field in Kansas when the typical Kansas 70 mph came through. A farmer close by was kind enough to park his giant tractor along side/with my truck to buffer and break up the wind. You be surprised how much that helped. Use good common sense and get out if you have the opportunity. JMTCW safe travels John

Last year on Holy Thursday, a tornado hit Iowa City killing one while we were on our way to our camper in Galesburg, Illinois. We could see the storm clouds brewing. When the storm warning came over our weather radio, we took cover. When the storm went through, our Montana was still standing, but the trailer in front of us had blown over. We suffered some minor damage to the sat dish, a tire (debris damage), and an awning. I wouldn't have wanted to be in the Montana. If we're in a storm that we can't avoid, we would put the slides in and then get to the safest location possible - not inside the Montana. We managed to get everyone into the campgrounds bathroom and no one got injured. Lots of wind damage. Hope this helped.
