Oven too hot

I have noticed that the oven runs hot...i.e. setting it for 350 heats it up to 425 Thus my question. What is a good solution to adjusting the oven temperature so that it is more reliable? I usually back off the setting by 75. But then sometimes I forget, problem with old age I guess

I also had the same problem. I solved it by measuring my oven and buying a pizza stone to fit the oven floor. It helps regulate the heat and keeps the bottom of dishes from burning.

I also have a small oven thermometer that I keep inside the oven when cooking to watch the temp.

I purchased the pizza stone at Walmart. It came in a box with a metal pizza stone rack-holder (which I threw away) and a pizza cutter for $19.

I did forget to take the pizza stone out of the oven while traveling and it cracked, but it still does a great job.

D&M are right, the pizza stone eliminate hot spots in the oven and helps things cook, bake more evenly.

I will try a stone one day but right now we use the air bake cookie sheet. It works real well too. In fact I bake my cheese cakes out in the Monty instead of the house oven.

I went to Home Depot and bought a 12 inch unglazed, Mexican quarry tile. Works great in the oven and really spreads the heat evenly. I bake my cakes and anything else I want in there and it seems to work just fine. Before the tile, I was always burning things.
I think I paid $1.98 for the tile.

I, too, use the tile. In my case, its a 13 inch tile at about $1.50... ...so if it breaks, so be it. It fits perfectly in the "tray" just above the burners.

Square pizza stone, really does even out the heat! Surprising what something simple like that will do to improve your baking skills!

We use the pizza stone..We have never had a oven in any camper that ran at the proper temp.We considered not getting the oven in the 3400..but got it anyway..hardly use it anyhow..Helen loves the 1/2 time oven and that is what we have been using.
