HamRad,

It was Stires RV which brushed us off and said to go to the trailer manufacturer for repairs since our trailer was out of warranty. Orange Grove RV park recommended Rosedale RV Parts and Service. Rosedale RV let us stay in our trailer at night while repairs were being made. We stayed at Orange Grove on 1-21 & 22. We spent 1-23, 24, & 25 at Rosedale RV. Rosedale RV had the temporary repairs done and on the road by 10:30 am on Thurs 1-26. Apparently Stires doesn't give everyone the same treatment you received. Before we left Rosedale RV an almost new Cougar pulled into Rosedale RV. The owner said he was from Visalia area where he purchased his Cougar. The left rear wheel was bent sharply inward at the bottom. Stires had refused to give his service telling him to take it back to the dealer where he bought.

Pwabbott, call Dale Brubaker (he is MIMF2 and works at Lippert) and talk to him about your problem. toll free is 866.524.7821 extension 4542. I think that number is correct. My notes say 866.LCI.SVC1 so check the phone dial if a wrong number in case I got it wrong. Non-toll number is 572.392.4974. That's Dale's direct to desk number. I'll email the same info in case you don't see this for awhile.

In answer to GBROOTS response on page 3 the measurement that I said how to do for the pin box tells you if that frame is breaking up around the pin box where it mounts to the frame. If the frame is breaking some where else this measurement would not be good. When taking this measurement, the bolts that hold on the pin box need to be tight. If this measurement is as stated you need to look for your self or to a shop that can. I also think that the factory is passing the buck as well as some dealers.

Repairs were to be made at the Keystone Pendleton, OR Plant some 700 miles from our home. On May 8th, we arrived at 8.00am for our appointment. We met with the Service Manager, Bob. We asked him if he had received the photographs showing the flange problem. He stated, "I don't need to see the photographs, I know what the problem is and I know how to fix it". He then told us that he had fixed several trailers with the same problem, he had not seen our trailer at that point in time. He then told us it would be ready at 3:00 pm that afternoon. (Temporary repairs in Bakersfield had taken 12 hours labor.) At 3:00 pm we arrived back at the plant and were informed it was ready to pickup. Arrogant Bob showed how he had fixed the frame problem by installing angle iron brackets with 1/4 inch sheet metal screws in the area above the propane tanks not even close to where the welds were broken. Bob seemed more concerned in repairing the cosmetic damage.

An inspection of the temporary repairs found the sidewall flanges have now bent downward and the sidewalls dropped almost 1/2 inch. This is not surprising as we've put about 4000 miles on these temporary repairs.

Arriving home I received a call from the Keystone Headquarters in Indiana asking if our trailer had been repaired. I described what had been done, and that our problem still remained, that nothing was done to repair the flanges. There was a long silence, then an apology. Nick, Montana Division of Keystone then stated the problem will be fixed properly. Nick called a Montana Dealer 40 miles from our home. Yesterday I met with Glen at that dealership. We went over the photos showing the welds that had failed. He is meeting with his assistant to evaluate what needs to be done to fix our overhang frame problem. Glen will report his recommendations to Nick in Goshen. Then repairs can be scheduled.

On Tuesday, 5/23 Talked with Glen, re. his evaluation of the what needed to be done to repair our frame problem. He stated he was reporting to Nick at Keystone, Goshen that the endcap needed to be pulled for further inspection and repairs, that Pendleton Keystone plant was more concerned with cosmetic repairs than solution to our frame problem.

On Wednesday I called Nick in Goshen. Nick was in meetings all day and had Brandon return the call. Brandon stated he was contacting a transport company to pick up our trailer and return it to the Pendleton Plant where repairs would be made. Goshen is sending their specialist in repairing this type of problem to Pendleton to do the repairs. After the repairs are completed a transport company will return our trailer to us in Camino, CA.

Friday, 5/26, talked with Brandon in Goshen. He was awaiting a return call from the transport company as to the pick up date for our trailer, his guess was buy Friday, June 2 at the latest.

I reminded him that we need our trailer by July 1 at the latest or we will be forced to cancel more plans. I should have more info on Tuesday.

pwabbott, Check for other damage done to your rig because of this fault. We had the same problem and by the time we got to the factory to have it repaired, there were an additional 48 items to be repaired. Many were very serious like a cracked countertop, deformed walls, collasped cupboards, etc. There were about eight items not properly repaired which we hadn't discovered until we had left. Turned out it was impossible to get the items corrected--get any warranty extensions in writing!

On Friday, June 2nd, Horizon Transport picked up our 5er. It was scheduled to be delivered to the Pendleton Factory today, Sunday. This week the Keystone specialist is coming from Goshen to examine and do the repairs. This time the end cap is to be removed for a thorough examination. At present we don't have a time line for the return of our Montana.
