Yep, pretty cool using software to combine views from two or more cameras to gain loads of benefits to those that tow trailers. Last report I saw said that the software does not yet handle fifth wheels only travel trailers. But still impressive.

Hmmm I can't imagine that the camera don't work on a fifth wheel but does on a conventional given if I was listening right to the dealer sales rep when he was showing me all the features during out test drive he indicated that one camera goes on the back of the trailer and one camera goes on the inside of the trailer for that view.. Both views are great, I like the idea of the inside view as we've had issues with the Border Guards going in at the crossing for a quick looksy inside the trailer (not pulled in for inspection) and then forgetting to close the microwave door, or closet door etc and stuff falling out marking the floor and being scattered about. Would be nice to watch them as they move about and know ..... I could be wrong on the 5er vs regular trailer tho...GM forums should have the facts.....

This link doesn't really say one way or the other, but includes pictures of truck towing a 5er.

Several have developed similar systems. GMC is the first to offer it in a standard production model.

for the 2020, for the back camera on the trailer you run a physcial line from the GM hitch area and attach the camera in the back of the trailer. I think the lines are 55 feet long.

i would assume in 2021 they will be wireless.

I have the camera, the lead is 60' long.
The cameras are HD, they say they can't get the HD image via Bluetooth.
I only got the exterior camera.
I also ordered the factory TPMS and temp sensors for the trailer that integrate with the center stack.

The wireless Camera's coming in 2021 would have to work better than the crap that came with the Monty. That one never worked from the start due to distance to the tow vehicle on my 3790RD... If I move it to the back seat it sort of worked, alot of good that is. I like the idea of a line from the hitch back. Did you drop the coroplast to install ?

Ford has had the trailer rearview camera and TPMS since 2017. Along with 360 view for the truck. 360 view including the camper would be cool too.

Trailer Rear View Camera

I put a wireless rear view camera on the back of our 5r and routed wire in the trailer belly to the front of the 5r for the transmitter to a receiver in the truck. It connected to my aftermarket GPS but I installed a switch so I could turn the camera view on while travelling. I really liked the idea. The camera "sort-of" worked - the picture would come and go and when it was on, was very jittery. i think that was the wireless technology.

I now run 4 wires from the 5r to the back of the truck using a standard 4-pin trailer connector (Cam +, Cam -, Pwr +, Pwr -) and then to the front overhaed console where my GPS is. The transmitter and receiver are now side by side.

My picture is now on all the time, with very few interruptions, but is still jittery.

If I were to do it again, I would not use a wireless system. BUT, I really like the idea of seeing what is behind me when travelling down the road.

Bet it would only require a software update. Love that people think the GM "sees through trailer." How about, GM finally has a trailer camera?

It is nice that they integrate that into the 360 view, but then again, how did we ever make it to 2019 with people able to back trailers without cameras?

Installed the Furion wireless back up camera and 2 side marker cameras on my 3750 a few months ago and it works great...
360 view around your vehicle is not new... Using my front windshield, my rear view mirror and my 2 side view mirrors I've always had 360 view around all my vehicles since the day I started driving a long time ago..
The more technology that is put in vehicles the less people know how to drive...

I had a rear camera that was very good during the daytime on my Sunseeker but at night and when it was rainy the camera was nearly useless.

I think when any rear camera is not working right that it becomes a distraction. So the distraction can negate any safety gain realized when the camera works.

We have and RV GPS, Waze through Apple Car Play, TPMS, Rear Camera, truck monitoring system all going while traveling down the road. I don’t even put on my rear camera screen now.

I’ve had the TPMS act as another point of failure. When it started leaking around a plastic valve. But at least the tpms caught the leak.

I’ve had to significantly increase my assures clear distance because of mostly crazy drivers not understanding you can’t stop on a dime but also it gives me more room if I’m slightly distracted by something.

I’ll keep my Ram, I drove a couple hundred miles this weekend. 23 mpg on a 9000 lb 2018 Bighorn 3500 CC, SB, HO truck. That’s pretty dang amazing from a stock truck. Haha but I love GMC also and have owned many so enjoy!
