Replacing the rubber roof.

Has anyone had the rubber roof replaced on their Monty?
I have damage from an encounter with a tree. The spots are small and were patched but Progressive insurance is going to pay to have it replaced. Anyone have experience with this ?
Would that be something I could schedule for early September before the Fall Rally.

If there are no leaks then I see no reason to hurry. The biggest problem will be matching your schedule with the dealers

I agree with Charlie. Many on this forum have patched their rubber roof and left it that way and it has given them years of service. Schedule at your convenience.

We had ours replaced under warranty and were traveling in Nevada at the time. Not sure what you wants to know - it takes a couple weeks for the dealership to get the roof from Keystone, then depending on the size of your rig, up to a week to replace (they told me one foot = one hour of work time). Can't think of anything else - let us know if you have any specific questions.

I helped redo a friend's roof. Not difficult if underlying wood is undamaged. We stripped the roof of everything, except for the AC which we moved out of the way and left on roof. Had to be careful not to damage the wood and there were sections where we had to be extremely careful. All caulking, roofline trim removed. Once we were down to the wood, we cut the rubber to size, rolled it up into a tube, and started from the front. We used paint rollers to spread adhesive, then rolled out the roof halfway, and made sure tight with no bubbles. We rented a weighed roller to accomplish that. Then we moved the AC to the front temporarily and continued on with the back half. Then we glued down the sides, which we found to be the hardest part, to get smooth and kink free. Reinstalled front and back trip and caulked. Let it dry overnight, and then started reinstalling vents, ac, antenna etc. Then balance of trim and balance of caulking. Took us three days. We also found that after a few weeks in the Florida sun, the few side kinks we were not completely happy with tightened up. It was a fair amount of work and took two of us together, not really a one man job. He paid $480 for the material, and had been given an estimate of $3000 from a local dealer to do the roof. PS Knee Pads required!

Joe, this is the post I put up last summer after my roof was damaged from a tornado:

http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=50368

There is a link to pictures. All the damage could have been repaired with Eternabond Tape. Adjuster from insurance came and told me they would replace the whole roof so did not have to tape it. Had it done at Camping World in Bath New York. Cost was around $4200 as I recall. They did all the work. It took a few weeks to get the materials and 1 week to get it done. They did a fine job. I would plan on at least 4 weeks from schedule date to job completion just to be safe.

I had my roof replaced when the unit was 5 months old due to a tree encounter. Cost was $4800. Insurance covered all but the deductible. Now for the bad news. Since I had my Truck insured with them as well, the tree encounter was considered an in motion accident, treated like a collision. My insurance rate increased significantly at renewal and will remain high for the next three years. I think they are trying to recoup their expenses. Changing insurance companies is next to impossible as my driving record now shows an at fault accident. Pitiful after 40 years clean no tickets no accidents. So I say, if it can be patched properly, patch it.

Repairs with kits/eternabond tape are better than new. But if Progressive will pay for a complete new roof, and not hold it against you, go for it.

Progressive replaced my roof in 2010 after a tree got to close--or maybe I got to close! Montana dealer in San Antonio did a great job. Ready to hit the road this summer. I used Etrnabond to seal the torn roof--it happened in Seattle--not exactly a days drive from San Antonio, Texas. We continued on our trip and got everything fixed about 8 weeks later.
