3670RL axel & tire wear

Hi, any issues with bent axles as tires wear premarurely on my montana 2004. Any recalls on this issue and what is cost of fixing problem?

Many different units have had bent axles. There are a variety of reasons an axle can get bent. It may be hard to determine the cause. Unless you have an extended warranty, I think you are beyond warranty coverage. If it were me, I might focus on getting it straightened. I would find a frame and axle shop that had bays tall enough to handle the Montana. This can be done at a cost of $100 to $200 dollars in Houston, TX. Don't know prices elsewhere.

An alternative might be to use it until the Fall Rally in Goshen and take it to the factory service center while attending the rally. Very generous things happen at the rally by Keystone.

We had our axles aligned at a shop in Pennsacola, few hundred dollars.

We have the 2004 RL3670 as you have. We have the Alko axles on ours (six lug steel wheels). We experienced severe tire wear and were advised to contact a Montana dealer and they worked with the company, either Keystone or Alko, and replaced our axles. All we had to do was pay for the installation. The new axles also appear to be bent too but not as bad as the original. Some members had their's replaced and the company also bought them new tires, but they won't do that anymore. Hope this helps.

I had an 02 SOB with ALKO axles and had similar tire wear problems. Dealer found two tires with steel belts showing and contacted ALKO who sent two new axles. They were replaced under warranty, but I had to spring for the tires. Apparently, ALKO had some heat treating/hardening issues with their axles that caused them to bend under normal use.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are in Donna Texas and our unit will be ready for inspection on March 1th when we move in to a park model. Any suggestions on a dealer near McAllan or Harlingen?

I wish you luck, our Dexter axles were off from the beginning. 3 alignments later and they still aren't right

had the axles on my 2004 monty realined this fall before i put it away for the winter. had tire wear from the get go. kept rotating the tires. front axle was 3/4 inch bent out and the rear 1/2 bent out. cost was $450.

I have a 2004 3670RL with axle problems. My front axle was a 6000 lb. and the rear 5600 lb. I had severe tire wear on the insides of the rear tires. This is not an alignment issue it is a combination of too light of axle on the rear and poor manufacturing from Alko. The rear axle had lost it arch that it must have to keep the tires flat on the road. If you look at your axles you can see that the rear axle will have lost it's arch. My rear axle was almost straight. Straight is bad. Both rear tires were wearing out on the inside. It took two new axles (6000 lb) and tires to fix my problem. Alko had some problems with axles around that '03 and '04 time period. Do a search on this site.

The dealer I would stay away from is Goodings in Mission. I ordered a black tank in early Nov. and said I would pay for overnight delivery. It is now mid Feb. and no tank yet. I talked to Keystone in Indiana an they said they would ship it out next day if requested by dealer. Does this answer you question...No. but it tells you who to stay away from. They are the only Keystone dealer in the area.

I was told by a neighbor camper (since moved on) that there is a good alignment shop in the RGV. While Goodings did not do the work, they were able to direct him to a place that could do it. So, I would just ask around at RV dealers, Goodings or other, it does not have to be a Keystone place.
