Twas in this year of nineteen ten
of this earth, upon that day
Mrs.Louise Sonora Smart Dodd
Rose up and had her say
On the nineteenth day of June
Upon this day proclained!
A day just for her father
On that day it then became
Fathers Day, a day for him
Her father, William Smart
He was the first in all this land
On that day the first to start
A tradition for all fathers
Fathers Day it had begun
Spokane,it was the town
In the State of Washington
Then in nineteen twenty four
Calvin Coolidge had his say
The third Sunday in June
Would now be Fathers Day
Then along came Lyndon Johnson
In nineteen sixty-six, proclaimed!
To be a national holiday
Fathers Day it then became
So now all fathers know
In June on the third Sunday
His childern they all honor him
With Love on Fathers day
Now today as we all gather
As I'm reading you this poem
To celebrate, this my day
From all my children's homes
Remembering back those years
Four times-a father became
And all the Love you've given
Into my heart, will ever remain
I thank--Louise Sonora Smart Dodd
For starting fathers day-and Hey!
To me and all you fathers, out there
HAVE A HAPPY FATHERS DAY
This poem is by Bill Mayer
