I blocked their personal email address from sending me anything but don't know how long that will work. If they send through the MOC then they can get through.

This type of letter has been going around for years and years now and I wonder how many people actually fall for this scam?

I had to go check the email connected to the forum, and yepper, there it is. Bummer, as far as I know, this is a first.

Good luck to our mighty staff in handling this situation.

I saw him pop up yesterday as a new member, but when I looked at his profile I thought it was a little strange so I didn't respond. It looks like the post has been removed. By the way I didn't receive an e-mail from him.

I did not get it, nor was it in my junk folder. Hope it stays that away.

Found it in my junk mail today. Other forums require at least 5 post from new members before email can be sent. Perhaps we need a policy like that here.

Thanks folks. We have locked the account in question. Thank you to Home on the Road. Unfortunately there is really not much that can be done in advance to stop this kind of thing. But we will always try to lock any such account as soon as we become aware of them.

Thank you all for your reports and have a great New Year!

I am really bummed out as I didn't get one. Also never got the one from Nigeria that has been floating around for years.

Sgtpp214,
We are sorry to hear that you were excluded from the lists. Arrangements will be made immediately to rectify the situation. Your name and address will be forwarded immediately to the proper authorities.

Of course we are kidding you. Count yourself lucky if you did not receive the spam in question.

Happy New Year.

RVWheels, MOC Admin.

Ha! The Nigerian Scam (419 scam) has been around for decades. Originally the Secret Service was involved, and may still be, in the investigation of this scam. Now, the Federal Trade Commission is tracking and you can forward any scams to: spam@uce.gov, and you should do so. It allows them to compile statistics and track the culprits. Recently in the past year or so there was an arrest in the US involving those who were perpetrating this scam, but it has not stopped it.

Way back when, at it's inception, the 419 scam was a facsimile that was circulated using an automatic dialer. When it became illegal to use facsimile to send non-solicited information, the practice slowed down, but it was still the third largest per-capita income of Nigeria. No wonder the Nigerian government would do nothing about it.

Ah! If they would only make solicitation by email illegal.
