furnace filter.

On my 06 2955RL the furnace is in the basement behing a panel and the wooden grill under the stairs is the cold air return. This is a simple thing to do on this model. The straps I installed were in my workshop but they are a common plumbing strap, bend and cut easily.

I just use a standard 2 dollar furace filter and cut it with shop scissors. I will try and post two pic links. Sorry for the big pictures but I don't know how to shrink them.

More great improvements!! I wish my furnace was located where yours is instead of under the counter in the island.

Mine's under the fridge - this will do nicely for me - Thanks !!! I've never seen those straps before - I guess I need to go down the plumbing aisle at HD & Lowes more often !! I bet I can think of several uses for them.

Thank you Don for the pictures and great ideas. I'm headed for HD to buy the material.

We appreciate the improvements you often contribute to on this forum and glad to see you purchased the same model 2955RL as ours.

Seem's like A great idea, But I'm pretty sure there was A post on that awhile back that stated not to put any restrictions on the air flow to the heater. Sounds pretty silly not to have a filter, you would think there would be some kind of a fire hazzard, with so much dust build up. You might do a search on this topic.

Just did my own search, It seems that a loose weaved filter is being used a lot with no problems. just make sure its cleaned often. sure does make sence to have one.

Thanks Dano, you are right and I plan on changing that little filter quite often.

Tom & Alice, thanks for your kind words. I like every Montana Model I have been into and they all have their strong points but both Donna and I are real happy with the 2955RL.

The only thing I am not crazy about is how low the rear stairs hang behind the rear wheels and the models with the stairs in front of the wheels don't have a problem with catching these stairs when the rear end of the coach dips for steep ramps. I only plan to take my stairs off when I go on the Ferry to the Mainland.

It takes me under 5 minutes with a 9/16" ratchet wrench to remove the 4 bolts that hold the stairs on. I tried using 3/8" pins with a clevis to make this a no tool job but the stairs don't feel solid enough with this so back to the nuts and bolts.

This shows that some of my ideas don't always work but improving my Monty is a fun hobby for me
and I will keep doing it and posting the things that work for me.

Installed the filter on the furnace this week. It turned out to be a simple 1 hour job on my 05 2955RL. I opened the return air grid then removed the 1x1 board at the bottom of the return opening and installed a 16x20 inch filter. The opening is an exact fit of the filter. The piece of wood was put back in behind the new filter to hold it in place. Replace the grid and your done.

My 30 minute filter install will stop the dust before it get's out of the living area of the coach and keeps the dust out of the cooling fan on the 12 volt convertor.

On the 06 2955RLs the furnace is enclosed with the water pump and convertor that is all closed in when the removable panel in the basement storage is in place.

I am not sure where the furnace is located on the 05s but it must be different because no way I could put a 16" x 20" filter in mine.

On the 05 the grill is under the frig. Took the grill off and the opening is 19W X 10H. The filter does over lap on the height, but does the job well.See-Ya
