Not a diesel forum but ...

Pulling a Montana 3730 FL up I-70 through Vail towards Glenwood Springs, the turbo charger on my 2015 Ram 3500 SWB was registering over 50% and seemed to be stuck on - even when descending with only the engine brake to slow us down. I am pretty new to diesels and really ignorant on turbo chargers in general. It is the 6.7 cummins engine. The truck performed really well, but I wasnt sure if the turbo charger was getting ready to explode - sounded like a jet engine - which was pretty cool, but it was scaring the DW. It finally started behaving when we got down the other side. Should I be concerned? Still got a long way to go.
Thanks,
Max

Don't know about your Cummins but on my Duramax when the fan cuts in in sounds like you said a jet engine. Fan cuts out when temps go down.

Same thing happens with my F250. Fan clutch will kick in when climbing the mountains. Sounds like a jet engine. Shortly after going over the top of the hill, the fan cuts out.

Both my last couple of F450ís at work and now my Duramax do that when pulling grades, and my DW also was concerned. Sheís finally used to it. Itís when the fan clutch doesnít kick in you should be very concerned.

Our Ram does that and has lasted 7 years and over 70,000 miles towing Montana's. The cats hate it, however, and yell until it stops.

It wasn’t your turbo it’s the fan. The fan doesn’t normally run except when the engine is working hard. If your transmission starts to overheat or the turbo temperatures are higher than they should be gear down and that will cool everything down.
Enjoy your truck. Don’t worry about it.

Glacier national park is open with the road to the sun closed right now. Some of the campgrounds are evacuated. But all the lodges are open. Very smoky up here air quality is terrible. We live about a hour south of the park and have been watching the updates. We had dry lightning come through this morning about 4:30am so I’m waiting to hear if any new fire starts. Hope this helps you with your plans.
