Lucky People

Some dealers should not be dealers. This weekend a couple pulled in beside me and wanted to know what would cause their unit to jerk. They said they could only go about 40 MPH because it was beating them to death. The first thing I saw shocked me. They had a 1 7/8 inch ball pulling a trailer that requires a 2 5/16 inch ball. I removed the coupler and the ball when up into the hitch without lifting the pin. They had pulled this unit about 30 miles and the only thing keeping the trailer on was the weight on the tongue. They told me that they asked the dealer if they needed a different hitch and he said no. This was their first RV.

Lucky for them they found you. Amazing that more people don't get hurt or worse due to the lack of knowledge by these dealers. Thank you for helping them out.

If this dealer let them leave the lot with the wrong size ball, I wonder how much help this dealer was with showing this couple how to operate their trailer. As we all know, if you have never owned an RV, there is a lot to learn. In 25 years of pulling a travel trailer I learned by trial and (mostly) error. This is our first 5th wheel and I have learned so much from this site in the 2 months that we have owned our Montana. I thank you all for that.

There is so much information on the internet now that, hopefully, first time purchasers will be better educated about what they are buying.

Thanks from all of us. We need to stick together to make sure we are as safe as possible when dealing with our rvs and tvs. It would be nice if all the dealers felt that way. I have been lucky having good dealers, but have heard many horror stories. Being a rookie rv'er myself, I too am very happy for people like you who take the time to help people like myself. This forum has been a true blessing for me since buying my Tana a month and a half ago. I don't know what I would do without ya'all. Even being mechancaially handicapped, I have been able to take care of most of my problems thanks to you. Thanks for being a great neighbor.

THE DEALER SHOULD BE TAKEN BEHIND THE BARN FOR SOME SERIOUS INSTRUCTION. THEY COULD HAVE KILLED SOMEONE. I ALSO SAY THANKS FOR STOPPING AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

Me too!!! This site - which I found listed on the Montana sales brochure - has saved me money, time and protected me from my own foolishness!!! Without y'all I'd be breaking my pinbox using a gooseneck!!!

I felt sorry for them. The dealer didn't tell them anything about how to set the unit up. When I asked them about winterizing the blank look on their faces answered my question. He just took their money and ran.
