Dometic Refrigerator

The day before leaving we turn the refrigerator on so it is cold before we pack the food the next day. I have a 30 amp outlet that I use for shore power at the pad. The fridge won't get cold on AC unless I put it on propane first. Once the fridge gets down to the temps where we can pack the food it will run on AC fine. Just started doing this.

The only difference that I know about is the heater used, on propane you have that flame doing its thing and basically only affected by dirty burner assy. On ac, it is a heat element of some design that will be affected by age of unit, electronics that allow ac to be switched in and out. Ac operation will have less btu input applied over that of gas...so what you are seeing is probably an aging heating element. I would measure the temperature of the tubes operating on electric with an kneader meter, then repeat for propane. My guess is that you will see a difference which accounts for what you are seeing. Why so soon...that's murphy's law in action. But it just may be an electronics issue and I would ask dometic why. John
