keeping cabinets open in 3685FL

In our 2005 3685FL I am looking for a way to keep two cabinet doors open that swing up.

The door over the refrigerator is a large door that swings up and usually is a two man job to keep it open while we store a coffee brewer and a toaster in that cabinet.

The other is the door on the cabinet over the TV that swings up, and is where the DVDplayer/receiver is located. I would like to keep that open while we are operating the receiver system so that we can see the status of the receiver as we push remote buttons.

I picked up a couple friction door slides today at Home Depot that may work but I thought I would ask first.

We have an '03 FL. Only one upward swinging door in ours, over the fridge. We use an adjustable tension rod, extended to about 2 ft, as a diagonal brace from the inside lip of the bottom of the swinging door to the outside bottom corner edge of the cabinet opening. One person can easily install it while standing on the stair into the living room. We usually need to climb up on a stool to get or replace whatever we need to up there. The tension rod "lives" at the front bottom of that cabinet, and is used to help secure the "stuff" while traveling.

Hope that helps..

I just address this problem on our 06 3475RL Monty on the weekend. I found a pack of two struts that are about 6" long at CW. They cost about 3.99 and I installed one on each side of the cabinet. I can take a picture of the installation as soon as I pick up our unit from the dealer. (in for some shakedown issues).

I'm glad someone brought this up, I'm 6'2" and I have issues with that cabinet door too. I'd love to see pictures of any "fix".

We only had one upward-swinging cabinet door, over the refrigerator. We emulated a modification made by Adelmoll whereby the hinges were removed from the upper side of the door and moved to the right-hand side, so the door now swings conventionally. We left the handle in its original position so as to not have to deal with filling the old screw holes. [The old screw holes left by the hinges are unobtrusive, being above the cabinet door.]

The modification took about 10 minutes, and was well worth the time.

As Harmon just said, that was a very easy fix for us. I don't understand why they were put on to lift up anyway. I still have to use a ladder to put things inside but at least I'm not being hit in the head while I'm doing it. Helen

Yeah---the one above the fridge is a pain so we only keep stuff used once in a while up there. The one that really is annoying on the 3685 FL is the flip-up door for the DVD player.

I put a friction slide on both. the one on the DVD door works OK the one over the fridge, the door is really heavy I will replace w/a stronger strut type.

We had dealer install struts on both when we did the walk through, we noticed it and they fixed it on spot with both of them. No issues now.

Our 3255RL has a locking arm that keeps the door open to the space over the refrig.

We have a 2004 3295 that has the doors in the sofa table slide that lift up. I put the struts on all six or seven of them. Cant remember how many there were. They have changed them now to opening the other way.
