black tank cable valve
Anyone else have problem with the valve. This is the 2nd time go to dump, pull cable valve and the valve wont open. Do it a few times still wont open. Hooked hose up to black tank flush. Still wont open. Drive around for a while it will open. Cable was replaced about a year ago. I am thinking the valve is the problem. Taking to dealer next week. Only 1 1/2 yeae old.

I have had the same problem too. That is closing and opening takes the forearms of Popeye. I think it has to do with the length and bend on the cable. This next season I will install a Barker Auto-Drain

It runs off the trailer's 12V system. Push a button and it opens/closes. No more cable.

After having my kitchen tank replaced because of leaking, the handle pulls extremely hard. It almost takes 2 hands to pull and the handle is not supported on the outside and is hard to pull out.

All kinds are definitely a problem. Over the years we have parked next to two trailers that had the electric valves installed, one factory and the other aftermarket, that wouldn't drain. That added an extra complexity to it because now it could be an electrical as well as a mechanical problem. Having seen it twice I've decided to stay with the problems I have.

I was having the same problem with the black tank valve. Surprised the handle didn't break trying to open it. One day, while browsing around in an RV dealer's supply showroom, I came across Thetford Drain Valve Lubricant, and decided to give it a try. Much to my surprise, after a couple of cycles of filling the tank and draining over a couple of weeks, the valve has stopped sticking. I am using 4 oz of the lube, about 4 oz of liquid Calgon, and about 4 oz of tank treatment, all down the toilet after each drain procedure. I figured it had to be the valve sticking, because once the valve did move, the cable control would move the valve open and closed normally, but after sitting closed for at least a week, it would stick. I operate the gray and galley tank valves several times a week, so they don't seem to get stuck like the black valve.

I have used the drain valve lube for years I think mineral oil would work also Look at a valve I have installed a few in my day nothing more then a plastic disc sliding between two rubber seals. When installing you can over tighten the 4 thru bolts which makes the valve hard to open and close.

Our rig is 2 years old & I have sprayed the shaft in the convenience center when the valve is open each time with CRC silicone spray (just the black and shower gray). Shifted to CRC Power Lube (free can at the MOC rally this year - also available at Wally). So far they are as smooth as when new.

My black and one grey one have been stiff since new. On another forum Baby Oil was recommended. It works. I use about 10 ounces of oil with a gallon of water in empty tanks then work the valve back and forth a few times.
Cheers!

Took my rig in for the black tank valve because we had a heck of a time opening and closing, they replaced it and then called and said one of the gray tank valves were leaking. So the replaced the shower grey water valve now we can't close it and it stays open all the time. It's now going back to the shop. Also the replaced a leveling leg and now when you push the left and right buttons so that the rig goes back to the same spot it was when you unhook doesn't work now. So here's another problem. Then the emergency window latch broke again second time in 5 months. I'm thinking about seeing if they can put a regular window opener on the back window, can't use the window to escape because the ladder is there. We are really feeling frustrated.

Astrungis: Did you install the Baker Auto-drain? Is it way under your Monty? It's a bad time of year, but the manual valve has become unbearable on ours!!

On our 2015 3440RL after three visits under warranty, Montana paid to convert the cable system to straight rods. Never been better.
