Spare Tire Loose

I just happened to notice the spare tire hanging low on our 3700RL when we stopped for lunch on our last trip. I had to crank it back-up to tighten it against the holder. Has anyone else had a problem with the spare coming loose?

It is a well documented problem. Some members have resorted to adding an additional independent strap to keep the spare from dropping.

Mine was loose the first time I picked the Monty for the first time. I've since been on a 1000 mile trip, it's still tight.

Many members have wrapped a strap of cable around their spare as insurance. For now I would just keep an eye on it, it's possible the tire just wasn't tightened enough

My tire on our old unit stayed put throughout our trip to Alaska - including many encounters with frost heaves, until I had to change one on the way back in Montana (of all places). Then I couldn't get the darn thing back up! I threw the spare in the back of the truck replaced the crank up unit when we got home. I considered changing it out with one from a truck spare, as you almost never hear of them failing.

Not unusual on first movement after tire has been down. It is always good to look at it on walk around.

Yup it's on my list to check. Been lucky so far and haven't had an issue.

Another addition for the checklist, you don't want to drag that wheel under the fiver going down the interstate.

I just authored as thread on this few weeks ago. Mine ended up falling to ground. Had to be repaired. Bent the holding brackets.

Found mine loose when we had it on repair jacks. Tightened her up. Will keep an eye on that too.

I never would have thought one could just come loose! I'll be checking the one under my truck too.
