Hwy 17 out of Flagstaff

Since ALT 89 down to Sedona out of Flagstaff is a no go, how would Hwy 17 down to 179 than up to Sedona work?

I haven't been on 179 and truckers guide show it as "other" road. Have been on the road from sedona down to cottonwood and over on 260 to 17. Nothing scary about it...but Alt89 down into sedona with the hairpin turns marked 15 mph was super nasty in just my truck. John

I think I have been on it (car) I think going north from Phoenix into Sedona twice. Saw quite a few RV'S on the road. If you keep going south I don't recommend going through Jerome with a large fiver. Remember I may be thinking about the wrong road.

We took 17 down to Camp Verde with the trailer and stayed outside Verde. Went back up to Sedon with truck only taking 17 and then 179. I don't remember 179 being to bad for a truck/trailer unit. Also went from Sedona on 89A to Cottonwood and then 260 to Verde and I think that route would also be ok. Now 89A from cottonwood down (actually UP) to Jerome I would not do with a trailer attached. Jerome is basically build on the side of a mountain. The truck alone was plenty big enough driving through that town.

The traffic and congestion in Flagstaff is terrible. If you just want to see Sedona, I would suggest staying outside at maybe Camp Verde and day trip in. There are a lot of traffic circles that have been added in the last ten years. You could unhitch at the casino if you don't want to pay at a RV park.

As stated, would matter how far into Sedona you want to go. The only problems would possibly be a tight roundabout once you get to the Village of Oak Valley. The road in from 17 is not a problem.
