will my rims work with G tires
hello,
just got the new 2014, 3625re in December and was wondering if the rims would take the G rated tire? I have the E rated now that's what came with it. do I have to buy new rims to upgrade the tires to a G?
thank you

You do not need new rims. Look on the back of hte rim and the weight rating should be stamped into the alloy. 3750 lbs and/or 110 psi.

Depends on what the backside of your rims/wheels are marked with. If they say 110 PSI max as well as being marked with a max load in pounds that matches the tire, then it should work. My H rated are marked as 4350# and 125 psi. Overkill to may, but they run so cool and they are a much better tire than most. John

I just put new G rated tires on my 2012 and they had E rated Marathons ,I think All New or Newer Montana's rims are rated for 110 but like was said before look on the back

I just went through the same thing a couple month ago. I think in earlier posts someone found out from rim manufacturer that any of them made after 2009 or 2010 were all rated for 110 pound pressure tires.

There were some early 2010 models out there with the 80# rims, but by late 2010 when our rig was made they had gone to the 110# rims.

Not knowing what year your rig is it's hard to tell you. But if your rig is older then please read http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=57139 because there are some rims out there labeled 3750lbs/110psi that are really not rated for that much weight or pressure.

The rims are fine for G rated tires, but change out the valve stems, preferably to metal.

X2 what Tom S. said. I just did that too when I went with the G614's.

Thank you MOC members - sure wish I had joined years ago. Glad I checked here before I put G tires on my 07 3400RL. Guess I will have to order new wheels before ordering the tires.
Just had to put 8k axles on it as both spindles on left side are bent - back one bent almost an inch but wheels in good shape. Frame guy said he has seen this before & is caused by hard turn when going over hump where excessive weight is on back axle. Axles on the trailer are not strong enough to handle the weight shift.

A quick suggestion, if you have to go the expense of new wheels have you thought about stepping up even a notch farther and going with 17.5" wheels and "H" rated tires to make full use of the 8K axles??
We've upgraded our SOB to Mor/ryde 8K IS and running GY G114 17.5" H tires.
The GY G114s are actually 2/10 of an inch smaller in OD than the G614s but carry a 4805 Lbs rating at 125PSI

Had not really thought about taking that jump - had not really planned to do anything but moved to g tires. But had to return early from Colorado last year to have mitral valve surgery. But would have had to put her in the shop anyway as 1 almost new tire on back axle was bald on inside and had to be replace in CO then new tire was badly worn when we got home (only 1,000 miles). Extended warranty says bent is not mechanical malfunction or breakdown so not covered & insurance is pending but very iffy as I changed last Spring. Now new axles, new wheels & tires and peeling stickers. Sorry, I just had to vent a bit. I will look into 17.5" wheels thanks for advice.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the G614s. We had them on our Montana and ordered them on our SOB. But after hitting the scales and with the planned upgrade to Mor/ryde 8K IS, I ordered 5 17.5" wheels/tires all mounted and balanced. Then put the G614s and wheels on Craig's list and sold in a couple of days.
It's just another option if you need to change wheels to move up to G614s you just take that extra step to 17.5s and never look back.

OK - I bit the bullet and ordered the 17.5 wheels and G114 tires. Talk a good bit with sales manager at Trailer Tires & Wheels who advised me that with my weight to move up to 17.5 as I was right at weight that they had experienced a few problems with G614. He said the 614s would probably last quite well for most drivers(and I know most people have had great experience with them) but for only $500 more (the 16 wheels & tires were going to cost $2,000) I could get the best and would get 7 years out of them. Also I found that G114 were in inventory of most truck tire retailers.
