Tire question

I want to exchange tires from a new travel trailer to my 5th wheel Montana for the trip back north from Fl.to NY.the new tires are ST235/80R with a e rating 3042/lb 80 lbs pressure. The tires on the 5th wheel are LT 235/85r16.The only difference I can see is one is a LT 85 and the other is a ST 80.both have the same load rating and tire pressure. This is a one trip North. The reason I'm changing tires is the tires that are currently on the 5th wheel are 6 years old.I was fortunate to get Tacoma's.

Is that "1035/lb" a typo? Your original Tacoma's are rated at 3042 lbs in support of the 6K axles. There is no way you should use or even consider a tire with only 1035 lb. capacity.

gary, those sizes are interchangeable.....They might add 1/2 inch to total height. I went from 235/80's to 235/85's and no noticeable difference in height......I do hope the 1035 was a typo......HINT: I always preview my posts for important typos.....

Yes, as noted the tire sizes are interchangeable.
I did the opposite of what you are doing though...I changed out the stock tires (235/80) to a 235/85 16 and it is actually about 1" more total diameter.
My goal was not so much the additional diameter (although that is also good) but to go to a BFG Commercial T/A type LT (NOT an ST).
Personally, I wanted to get away from the Chinese tires my trailer came with.

I believe the ST 80 is what most Montanas came with from the factory, except for a short period where they installed LT tires. Those of us who have switched to LT's have gone to the 85's as that's the available size. As noted above, either is fine for your situation. I can see no difference in height although I know there is a small difference.

In 2000 ours came with LT tires and I've never even given a thought to installing ST tires. I'm completely satisfied with LT tires and they're available at most tire shops whereas ST tires are not.
