Hi Tom,

You can try to rubber mount your pump and add the following kit.
It does help.

http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...t/skunum=29361

The way the pump is hooked up to the water lines is pretty noisy. If thats not good enough buy a better pump. The one they put in the average RV are not the best.

Also check to see if the hose from the pump is NOT hitting the wall anywhere. Ours was beating the wall and was very noisy till I flexed the hose a little, got it off the wall. Sometimes it is an easy fix and sometimes you really have to work to fix it! Good luck!

Connect to city water...sorry, bad humor. Hopefully, its only running when your using water right? If not you have something leaking and that needs to be fixed. My prior 5th wheel it was under one of the bunks...not good location. Current Monty has it under Entertainment Center so its not too noisy.

Tom,
You can get round foam pipe insulation at the hardware store. Wrap every inch of your water supply lines you can access and you will be surprised at how much it will reduce the noise. Also you can install an accumulator tank available through Camping World and other RV supply stores. These two combined are an economical and effective fixes. Follow this link: http://www.campingworld.com/browse/s...=2290&src=SRQB

Good luck

The pump has a natural urge to vibrate when it runs. As mentioned by others, make sure that when it vibrates, the pump does not cause other things to vibrate against other things. (ha) Often there are hoses that vibrate up against walls, air ducts, and wiring. One way to chase down vibration noise is to move things around in and around the pump as it is pumping. It's often suprising how easy it is to calm things down by moving adjacent things around.

And then perhaps another 3 or 4K miles down down the road you might have to rearrange again as the bumps of the road bring other obstacles into the vibration range of that pesky pump. Just had to do my second rearrangement this past weekend. It's running quiet again for a while.

Ours in the 2955 sounds like a B-17 warming up for takeoff. I have tried putting a foam pad under the pump, and using the foam pipe insulation on everything I could reach, and it's still noisy. The pump already has the soft hose connection from the factory. I think the next step is a better pump.
This is a fairly common complaint, and there are other threads on the subject.

Good luck!

I believe it is the connection to the hard plumbing lines that is causing the noise. Mine was making an awful racket, so I replaced the pump with a high quality model and it made no difference at all.
I then went up to the hardware store and bought some flexible sink lines and adapters. All they had were three footers, so I made two loops instead of one. Then I put a piece of foam under the pump instead of it being mounted through the rubber grommets to the floor.
When I turned it on, I had to strain the hear the noise. The noise of the water hitting the sink completely drowned it out.

Ozzie,
Call me lame, but I don't understand where you put the flexible lines (retired Navy, I usually need pictures). Also, were they just the braided type lines?

Jack,

Hook the flexible lines to each side of the pump and then to the hard plastic waterlines. The flex lines will take up the vibrations from the pump. I think most of the noise we hear is the hard plastic lines thrashing around, thumping against things. But does help to soft mount the pump to the floor. What I can't figure out, is the the pump is only loud half of the time. Go figure.

Hehe...no problem Jack...BTW - I have a brother that's retired Navy as well.
Yes, I used regular vinyl coated braided line (the kind for sinks), broke the connections on each side of the pump, and installed the loops between those connections. I needed a couple adapters to make it work as those lines are male/female. What you need are female/female.

What it did was isolate the pump from the hard plumbing on both sides. The loop actually takes the pulse from the pump and absorbs it before it gets to the hard plumbing pipes. That's what makes it work.

I also added an accumulator at the same time to help stabilize water pressure when more than one faucet is one. That was a success too.
Both of those fixes were less than $50 and it's one of the cheapest and most rewarding fixes I've done.

EDIT - had to make a correction.

Ozzie,
I just did the mod with the flexible water lines....what a difference. Then I thought "Maybe I can get it even quieter" so I did a piece of foam under the pump and accumulator tank then insulated all sides of the pump compartment with 2 inch thick foam. The result is barely any noise at all. Thanks for the info.

Oops - just saw this one Jack. I'm glad things worked out for you on that pump noise. I just have mine sitting on a piece of foam, no encapsulation. I would be a bit worried about overheating, but I guess that would only be during showers.

Bruce,
I never even considered that the pump might overheat. If it fails anytime soon I will give that ample consideration. Now you have me thinking of my next mod....a remote temperature sensor for the pump compartment. Okay, just kidding. Where our water pump is located it appears it will still have plenty of air circulation even with the compartment insulated. Thanks for the heads up though.
