Registering TV and RV in Texas?
I am exploring options of where my next full time move is going to be. I am looking at the San Antonio area.
Does anyone have any info to share on what the approximate fees are to register my TV and RV in TX?
TV and RV in signature.
thanks much

I am interested in this also. The downside (as I understand it) is that you need safety checks in Texas.

Annual license fees for my F-250 is $73.93, with a $12.50 annual inspection fee on diesels, for gasoline powered vehicles it is $37.50. There has been talk about increasing the inspection fee for diesels to the same as the gassers, but so far it has not happened. Some counties are higher than others as they impose a $10 road & bridge tax. I live in Brazoria County and it happens to be one of those with the additional $10.
For the Montana it is $119.38 and there is no inspection fee for it, but the dreaded $10 road & bridge tax on the license. Hope this helps.

Charlie, the safety inspection fee for diesel vs gasoline only appiies to certain counties. A few Texas counties require an emissions test for gasoline engines, ours does not. I charge the same fee for both, $12.00, plus a one time $1.00 identification fee for registration purposes.
On Edit - Also, any trailer over 4500 lbs. GVWR is supposed to have a safety inspection. I'm not sure if this applies to RV's, but I will find out.

Uh-oh...safety inspections? Does this apply in different states as well?
I haven't had anything inspected (formally) on our rig since I got it three years ago. Our unit is a trailer under 10,000 lbs.(actually 11,400 gross), so does that have different rules?
Gees...you guys got me a bit worried that I'm not taking care of something I should.

Hey Ozzie, don't get too worried yet. We were just talking about Texas. You would have to check your own states laws as far as your trailer goes. All states do not require safety inspections or emissions tests. Here in NM there is no safety inspection required for non commercial vehicles, but I know Bernalillo County requires an emissions test. It all varies from state to state, county to county.

In Bastrop county we had to have a safety inspection and weight. $12.50 for the inspection. If you have a weight on your current title you will not have to have the weight done. The fees are according to weight. My understanding is that we will have to have the inspection every year. Not an easy thing to find an inspection station that will do trailers. We found one in San Marcos. We were going to have it done at the dealership, but they stopped doing them.

My permanent address is in Polk County Texas and I have my TV and 5W inspected annually when I go through Livingston where my address is. The inspection is nothing more than a formality and costs $12.50 for each vehicle. If you are not going to be in Texas with your rig, even though your address is there, you do not have to have vehicles inspected. We've had a couple of times when our inspection certificate has expired and we got it renewed the next time we were in Texas. We get our vehicle licenses renewed through the mail.

Thanks for all your input. Moving to TX is just in the exploratory process right now, but having as much info on what different fees are is helpful.
