Dirty laundry

We just used the 120th sheet of Bounce fabric softener, which means, by my very poor math, 120 loads of clothes so far.
At $3.00 per wash and dry, that's $360.00 if done in a laundry somewhere.
It's been around 4 month's laundry. Maybe after a year's use, it will be a paid for type deal.
Just figures to mull over.

That's the useful practical kind of math that is really helpful while we are still debating the issue of washer and dryer OR combo. Thanks!

I did this kind of math when we made the decision. At the time I was working so more clothes than when retired but I came up with it would pay for itself in a year. And not all places can you get away with $3.00. I did not figure into the picture clothes that get ruined in the laundry mat or the fact I had to have some things dry cleaned because they were too delicate for the laundry mat. Those were done on the very gentle cycle once we had the w/d. When I was originally calculating this Ed said I had to count the wear and tear on his sneakers for all the trips he made over to the CG laundry only to find all the machines in use! LOL
Happy trails............................

I doubt it will be cost effective for me to have a washer and dryer in my Monty but I plan on doing so. I hate laundrymats and feel having the convenience of doing it "at home" is priceless.

Yeah, it is hard to put a price tag on convenience.

Cost effective or not Lorraine prefers the laundromat. In all the years we have used the laundromats on a weekly basis we have never had any clothes ruined, torn or stained. We were using the laundromat here at Avalon but found the laundromats just up the road to be a bit faster and because of the great number of washers and dryers not as difficult to find vacant units.

In ole Mr Cost vs benefits opinion..It is a convenience factor. Cost vs benefits had nothing to do with it.We have never really been in a nasty Laundromat and would usually use ones "off campground" It is just more convenient for us to do the laundry right here in the camper. That's it....

Washers and dryers don't work very well in the desert. But the price for the parking lot is perfect! Nada! And the company is great!

Thanks for pointing out a fact that we failed to take into account Sue. Cost to replace things if ruined. A scarey number in our case. Socks for under a prosthesis are @$16-$20 each and a full wash load is worth hundreds of dollars. And then there would still be the cost of those new sneakers to factor in! I guess it is really a matter of convenience, trade-offs and choice. We're still debating and probably will until I write the check!

Well the decision is final. We will be installing one ASAP. After the closest laundry 3 miles away totally grossed us out. The boss said if I wanted my laundry done that I would have to do it myself. Well, "Happy B day honey you just picked up a new set". Not to mention the roses and bling too.... LOL

As said before if Mama is not happy, NOBODY IS!!!

We are looking a the possibility of stackables (with a braced shelf in the 3400 closet for the dryer. Anyone have any exoerience with the Splendide Ariston stackable series?

We have the all in one Splendide which really works well. We just have to do laundry about three times a week. The only draw back to the unit we have is that it takes us all day to do a weeks worth of laundry. The laundry here is $1.25 per load wash and dry. We still use the laundry for our throw rugs and beach towels after the grandkids visit. We figure that our washer/dryer combo is already paid for. Along with the convenience of not having to go out in the "elements".

Sorry about the triple post; had the "dreaded slow forum" last night and timed out twice. Didn't think the reply posted.

I would not take anything for our washer/dryer. We have the stackable Kenmores. Love them and I am sure if we spent more time on the road they would have paid for themselves.
The convenience is priceless!

Mark us down for the Kenmore stackables too. Thoroughly satisfied except for not being able to run the second A/C and W/D at the same time.

Stiles, does your 2003 unit have the 50 amp, or was that still 30 amp yet?

Dave,

Can't attest to how they work, but we chose the Aristons. (Still sitting in the box in the garage). I'm hoping to get the details for the dryer shelf used in the Big Sky from Keystone, so I can install one. It just looked too nice to be able to reach the washer valves with the dryer elevated. If I get a response, I'll forward it to you.

Check your math, Ozz...
- 120 loads at $3 = $360
- 120 loads worth of convenience at $10 = $1200

At a total of $1560, that thing's already paid for itself!

Shame on me for not looking at the washer/dryer that close, but looking at the little closet that it goes in... doesn't that equal 3 loads to one load at laundry mat????? I agree with everyone about the convenience though. I can say that every CG that I have spent any time in has had excellent Clean facilities, I guess I don't get around much anymore ha ha

When I did my math, I calculated how many loads we were doing at a laundry mat or how many loads Ed did when he took laundry home. Yes, we do more loads in the combo but since Jim and Sue have larger units, they can do larger loads than we do. It still pays for itself no matter what you factor in but then this is another one of those things like peanut butter. You either love it or hate it.
Happy trails........................
