Ken, I'm sure there are a lot of different ways to clean the awning and I will give you mine. I use Thetford awning cleaner mixed per instructions on the bottle. Then I add 1/2 cup of bleach to the mix and apply to both sides of the awning. I then roll up the WET awning and let it work for up to 30 minutes, unroll the awning and reapply mixture and use a long handle brush to gently scrub, rinse well and usually comes pretty clean. This procedure is done twice a season. Just remember to keep the awning wet while you do this and keep the side of the 5er rinsed off too. Any way you do this, you will have to scrub. Oh yeah, be careful and don't fall off the ladder when you try to stretch to reach the top!

At the Dollar Store there is a cleaner called "Awesome". Best darn stuff I've ever seen for cleaning the awning.

If you don't want to get into the bleach, try Oxy Clean. Put on top and roll up. Wait and rinse. Does a great job.
Happy trails.....................

We have used the bleach/roll-up method before and found that Tilex Mold & Mildew spray is much better. Do wear eye protection with either method. Both solutions burn a bit and the Tilex is worse than the bleach. With the Tilex you may not have to scrub any, just use hard spray.

Ken, We used to live in WA state where I swear that mildew is the state plant! We have used just about everything you could think of. We found that the Awesome product works pretty good, BUT.... The only thing we came across that cleaned and took away the stains was what Parrothead suggested, and that is "OXYCLEAN". It works great, and you don't have to worry about bleach or that bleach smell you get from some products and oxyclean is much safer to use. Our search stopped with the oxyclean, nothing else has worked as well. Boy, I sound like a commercial don't I, sorry. I just know it works really well.

I think I will try the Oxyclean this spring, sounds like it's worth giving it a whirl! Thanks, I never liked getting the bleach spray back in the face!!!!

I agree with all the above solutions, mixes, etc. Also, you can use a power washer on the awning and it takes off everything real quick. Keep the pressure reduced to only what you need to clean the awning.

Someone suggested Oxy Clean here last year, so I tried it. To put it simply, it works!

That darn $1.00 bottle of "Awesome" cleaner is the easiest to get and use. By the time you buy all the other things for a mix, this stuff works great. The other mixes are all good, but this stuff is so convenient.
