I was pretty sure the Titan would make the Top Ugly List......... but top towing.no way.

Also the CXT is not a pick up, it is a Medium Duty Truck, different class completely, so this puts the F350 at the top.

OK, I like this list.

As long as we are looking at tests, here is Edmunds: Edmunds comparisons

Bottom Line:

1. Chevy D/A, score: 81.6%
2. Ford PSD, score: 63.0%
3. Dodge Cummins, score: 53.6%

All are 3500s, Chevy and Dodge had a 3.73 and Ford had a 4.30.

Like Ihave said before. If someone would just go and build one with bits and pieces of each truck and make one great one. I woul dlove to have the cummins motor in a ford truck with the allison 6 speed tranny. but no one will build me one. So for now I am stuck with "Fordzilla".

If they made them from pieces of each!!! You would still need a Ford to follow them around picking up the GM and Dodge pieces!! Oh and you can cut that list to 7 thr rest???? Hmmm? Bet I get em going now!!

Ron, can't help you with the Allison but I have read that the Ford Torque Shift was designed by Allison for Ford.
But as far as a Cummins in a Ford, these folks can help.

Me thinks I would rather take Edmonds results rather than a dealer in Waterloo, Ont. (No offense to our Canadian friends) First of all, Forbes isn't even comparing Apples to Apples. How on earth can a CXT or a F350 or a 3500 be compared to, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan King Cab, Cadillac Escalade EXT, Hummer H2 SUT. I hardly classify the last 4 as trucks muchless in the Top 10 Biggest, Baddest Trucks for Towing.

Ron, 11 or 12 years ago the engine went out on our 88 F350. We, along with a local truck center, a handy dandy adapter kit, a local machine shop, and lots of head scratching, blood, sweat, and cussing, installed a Cummins with an Allison 500 series truck trans. We had to lift the body 3" for clearance, and several other things too numerous to get into, but it turned out to be a relly neat rig. We still have it, and it's still running strong. Had it repainted last year, installed a flatbed, and swapped the duals for super singles.

What a ridiculous thing trying to find 10 towmotors to rate - seeings how there are only 3 or 4 contenders. If Forbes made it the top 11 or 12, they would have to start looking the the Subaru. It's about as silly as the Consumer guide ratings for the top 3 trucks being all bad - high maintenance, when these trucks do all the dirty work there is to be done across the country.

I may look into that if I ever need to. I was getting at there are good and bad points of every manufacturer. I know whatever is working for Ford will be standard on Chevy and Dodge within a couple of years and vice versa. Whatever works on Chevy or Dodge will be standard on the Fords within a few years as well. Seems like if you like this about the "OTHER" brand of trucks just wait a year and it will be an option on your favorite brand. Most of us, (myself included) will not brag about the things we don't like about our trucks. We all know there are things we don't like or like better about brand "X". That's the joy of living in a free country we have so many choices. What if we could only buy one brand of truck and only one combination of standard equipment? Would we still buy it to pull our trailers? I would. I love to camp and if I had to drive a Chevy or Dodge in order to enjoy camping, you bet I would.

Well iffn you ever get up to the many towable plants in Goshen you will see them all being used as transporters. Because of the wide variety of rigs transported the vast majority are 3500's or F350's with some of MDT's thrown in. Most everyone are diesel. I don't recall seeing any more Chev/GMCs than Fords or Dodges. But I am absolutely positive I have never seen any Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan King Cab, Cadillac Escalade EXT, Hummer H2 SUT being used.

This is a pure curiosity question but, does anyone know why Mercedes-Chrysler uses Cummins diesel and not Mercedes diesels? After all in Europe Mercedes diesels are used everywhere.

Glenn - hahaha

Speaking of Escalades - my yuppy neighbor left with his over Labor Day to take his new boat to Lake Powell. He came back with a new GMC 2500 D/A with Utah temporary tags. I opened my mouth and he said "don't ask"

In my opinion, there are only two choices when it comes to tow vehicles for large (over 10K lbs) trailers:

a Ford, Chevy/GMC, Dodge with Diesel Power
or a Ford, Chevy/GMC, Dodge with a big block

I would say these two excellent choices cover about 99% of what is on the road today.
SRW vs. DRW, Crew vs Ext, Short vs Long, 4x4 vs 4x2, all a matter of personal choice and comfort.
