Pooh Paper
Hey everyone. I am just wondering:
Does everyone use the special $2.50 and $3.99 bath tissue for your rig?
Is it totally against the rules to use regular bathroom tissue?
My wife and I are going to begin full timing next Sunday (YEAH!) and it just seems to me that $4 per 4-pack is awfully expensive for the 'extra soft, double absorbancy, 2-ply, super durable-yet easily desolvable' paper.

30 years of Rving, I have always used the same TP we use in the house, Usually Scott Paper. I never have had a problem. I have also worked in pulp mills for 36 years. I have heard of many grades of pulp. EG , one grade is used exclusively for medical supplies, the paper clothes worn in surgury.etc. I have never heard of an RV grade of pulp.
Read this as a giant rip off for the consumers duped by CW and Travel Can makers everywhere.

I buy the septic toilet paper from Costco. It usually comes in bulk and is much cheaper then anything I can get anywhere else. I have to use it at home for our septic anyway so I just get more of it and fill the trailer also.

I use Thetfords RV and Marine bath tissue. Wal*Mart usually has a 4pk on sale for $2 or so. In the stick house I use Charmin bath tissue and I am on septic. As others have said, anything that is safe for septic tanks should be ok for your rv.

We use whatever 2 ply is safe for septic. I just look for the little icon on the back of the package. Northern makes one and so does Charmin.

Ditto Sue!
I like Northern, like Charmin, like 2 ply, those are most available around here, so that's what we use.

I agree, anything that is septic safe is fine. We use Quilted Northern.

Another Scotts 1,00 sheetes user. Never had a problem in 4 years of full time use. Take the advice of another poster, if you are ever in doubt. Just place paper in small jar of water and shake. If it breaks up fast it's OK.
I think it's a good idea to use a good amount of water when you flush too. Back flush once a week and should not have any problems.
Some recommend you let the black tank get full before flushing. I used to do that, but not any more. After having a series of small cracks at the top of my tanks that slowly leaked on the underbelly and caused me and my neighbors much distress when we finally became aware that I had a problem, I do not let either tank get completely full. I think in my case the weight just caused to much stress on the tanks. If you saw where they were leaking you might think the same thing.
I let my tanks get full enough to cause pressure when flushing but not completely full. I never want to go through that again.

One ply or two ply it's all the same. With 1 ply you get a 1000 sheets on a roll with 2 ply you get 500. Either way a roll of TP whether 1 or 2 ply lasts the same amount of wipes.

We use Angel Soft, 2-ply. Breaks down readily. Have never had a problem even with my macerator.
