Lights

A light located on the front of my 5er by front compartment where the generator would go, turns on by itself. Is this some sort of a warning light? It has happened twice now.

There is an outside LED light over the hitch, built into the Front Cap which comes on when you turn on the DS Flood light. There is a red light on the controller inside the front compartment that comes on when the remote is activated. Hopefully, you were refering to one of those.

If you are talking about the light under the over hang by the front bay door that has a toggle switch that normally controls it, then it should not be coming on. I suspect there is something wrong in the switch interior causing a circuit to be made, i.e., turning on the light.

The fixture can be taken apart to check out the wiring and then reinstalled and re-caulked. With mine, I had a problem with the thing not coming on when switched on. I would go out later and find it on.

I was able to replace the actual switch that was used to turn the light on the angled front next to the storage cabinet and under the overhang. The switch was in bad shape and wouldn't turn on immediately but if left alone in the on position it would eventually turn on. I found a replacement 12v switch at Radio Shack. But I had to shave off and recaulk the switch into position since it was not quite the same physical size. 3 years later it is still working like a champ. The switch has a definite mechanical sound as it is turned on or off.

You don't mention the year or model of your rig, but I believe newer models have a light that can operate with a remote. Did you check this? Sometimes if the light is turned on by the remote whether by accident or on purpose, it might have to be turned off in the same manner. In these cheap feature days of RVing I also wouldn't be surprised if the remotes don't use as many codes as they could and maybe someone else's remote is doing this.

However, if you can confirm your light is mechanical only, then I would suspect the switch is bad and you should get it replaced under warranty, pay the dealer to fix it, or try and find a replacement - I was very lucky to find a close alternative I could set in place. I do like having that light but when it wasn't working it was very inconvenient.

Sorry for not giving you all the info. I have a 2002 3670RL Big Sky.
Thanks for the replies, it must be the switch. It has come on twice and will switch off but not come back on. Can't be a remote as I don't have anything that works with remote.

My first rig was a 2003 3670 Big Sky. I am sure it is something in the switch. Great rig, by-the-way, served us well.
