Dont Laugh, It works!
I replaced the standard roof vent fan with a Surflo fan today. Since working in the direct sun doesn’t get along with me very well, I rigged up my own shade. It really made a pleasant environment to work in; much better than in the direct sunlight. Anyway, I measured the roof temp in the sun at 116° and in the shade it was 86°. I don’t believe I could have worked in the sun for the amount of time it took to get it replaced.
OBTW, I really like the new Surflo fan; I think it will be much better than what I had.

The shade is quite ingenius. I'm surprised it was that much difference in the temp.

In another thread I talked about getting an IR thermometer gun. That was also an excuse to play with the new toy. That was the difference it measured though.

Very clever use of a tripod. I'll have to store that in my memory bank...........nope that won't work, I cant remember how to retrieve the information .

Mary Poppins!!! LOL... Must be the red cap.
That is a huge temp difference. I wonder if the color of the brolly could improve things even more.

Hold on there, I am younger than most (I think) and I remember Mary Poppins well....and Chitty-chitty-bang-bang (had to throw that in for confirmation!!). I refrained from posting my thoughts because it always seems I am picking on someone....Whoops, wait a minute, a lot of times I am !! My initial thought was that the tripod could be enhanced...I picture DW's nationwide atop rigs holding the umbrella?? The enhancement would be that in the other hand they could be holding a big old glass of Iced Tea or Lemonade. Back to the subject however, it was an innovative idea, way to go Bill!!

If one could make it portable enough and easy enough to deploy -- can you imagine the energy savings and increased cooling that could be seen by putting a 'whole camper' cover over your camper while in the hot sun.... not to mention keeping the roof cleaner!!
Neat way to protect yourself from the sun while doing that hot work.

Bill's heat deflector was also an emergency parachute if he only remembered to grab it if he stepped to close to the edge!

LOL Rondo... gee, this is a rough crowd... but with his luck he'd reach up and grab the power lines above him. Then we could call him Mary Pop Tart.
All kidding aside, Bill, that is still clever! So simple, but effective.
What's ironic about this is that we keep an umbrella in the rig for a rainy day. When we take the rig out I take my camera gear including a tripod. I HAVE THIS STUFF! Just some tie wraps or hook & loop fasteners (which I also keep in the RV) and I could make this quite easily! And it is portable.
