Ever wonder what wind speed is safe to pull your trailer in? We were north bound on I-84 on June 4 in a quartering wind. The weather report said 20-25 mph winds, but I'm guessing more than that from wind socks and flags. We were only driving about 55 because of the wind. I noticed something flapping in the side view mirror and pulled into a rest area within about 2 miles of seeing it.
There were only 3 screws holding the sheet metal on and the sheet metal tore thru all three. I put the metal back as best I could using large washers, then put 5 more screws in with washers. I will do the rest of the skirting the same way when I get some more washers. There are more screws holing the underbelly on, so I used some of them to minimize drilling more holes in the frame.
We lost a closure strip in front of the tires, but no other apparent damage. I still don't know how fast the wind can blow, but I know that was too fast for three screws.
