Kitchen slide won’t open

Tried to open the kitchen slide while stored level in our yard and it wouldn’t budge. The electric motor over the slide is making a skipping sound like the gear box is jumping gears. This is a cable slide with the bearing strip under the slide which the slide rides on.

At first I thought maybe the slide was frozen shut so I tried again after several days of warm weather and got the same results.

Has anyone had this problem before?

Sorry but the gears are stripped in the gear box. Time to install a new one.

What mlh said. My 2016 3791rd one of my rear den cable slides did the same thing jumping and then just made a grinding noise. No choice just replace it.

Thanks for the input. Just was curious how common a problem this is. I’m only three years into this unit and had gotten to the point I thought all the bugs were worked out, no luck there.

Think this is an issue with our year and little before ours. Watched a You-Tube video on replacing it and supposedly they were made in China but the one i put on mine was a different model number then the original which is suppose to be a better one ,will see. Also seen some complaints on here about newer models campers the gears are leaking fluid on the roof of the slides and ruining the rubber roof. Seems like it never ends.

I’ve heard about the leaking motors and I’ve monitored that. The bearing strip under the slide has given me problems with the slide jerking. Got that worked out but the jerking sure must have put a strain on the motor/gear box.

Would this be covered under the "3 year structural" warranty? I don't have cable slides so I`m not well versed on if they are under the warranty part or not. Worth a shot,I`d think.

I am going to let the dealer fix it. I have an extended warranty which I know will cover it but I doubt that it would be considered structural as it is an operating component.

Finally got an appointment with the dealer and brought it in just before a major snow storm. They looked at it and are replacing the gear motor and a cable. This and a frayed cable on the other slide are being covered under our extended warranty. Was thinking we may have wasted our money buying the extended warranty but am glad we have it now. When it comes time to replace this camper it will be interesting to see if we made out financially on having the extended warranty or not. Still not a big fan of them, but I may change my mind.

We have had a extended warranty on both our Montana's and would not leave home without one.We have received in the last 12 months 700.00 , 500.00 and 335.00 from our extended warranty for failures. That is just the last 12 months and only on this 2013 3402 Big Sky. I don't know about making out financially but on the 700.00 failure that occurred on I-95 in Florida it was a couple of phone calls and a 4 hour delay time for the repair.
