addition of speakers

Well, I decided to add speakers in the kitchen of my 3790 RD. Got everything installed and wired but now I have a problem. I wired them to channel or output C. Which was a spare.The added ones play wide open and are not controlled by the volumn control at all. The only thing I can do is turn them on or off with C selector switch. Any ideas why I can't control the volumn.
