Alaska Bound
Is there anyone on the road right now heading to, our already in Alaska. We are considering leaving in 2 weeks, but were wondering what are the most current road conditions? Here on another board that around Destruction Bay it is really bad all the way to Alaska.
Thanks

Here's a picture from my BIL in Juneau he sent last night(?). This is looking out his window at 9:50 PM! In Juneau the weather is cool 50-60, but cloudy and not much nighttime.
This is not much help since the weather in one area can be completely different in another area you can certainly expect nice weather during the day unless it rains then it could get chilly. Two weeks is a long time in Alaska weather. We have been there often for one to three weeks in July and August and we've seen clear, warm, cold, very cloudy and wet during every single trip. We have not experienced snow, extreme wind or extreme cold but stay near roads and cities and I don't think this occurs the months we go and being in the southern half of Alaska.

We just got back from an early Alaska trip on 6/9. And yes, the road from Destruction Bay on was not good. The crews were working on the Yukon stretches - as of 6/4 they had worked up from White River Crossing to the AK border - lots of gravel stretches, but the dips and holes weren't as bad as they had been two weeks earlier. When we left White River Crossing on 6/6 they were just starting to work on the section from Destruction Bay to White River. They work fast, so they might be paving by now.
The roads weren't much better once we got into Alaska. We went Tok to Glenallen to Anchorage and ran into a lot of bad road on that route. But everything is passable, just take 'er slow and easy.
The scenery was spectacular and we saw a lot of wildlife - bears with cubs, moose, caribou - all on the road/roadside. We're gonna take the trip again (without the Monty) in August - one way this time (deliver a car to our daughter in Anchorage).
Campground recommendation: White River Crossing (Yukon Discovery Lodging) is exceptional. They're about kilometer marker 1818. Bob & Amanda are the owners - and they are wonderful hosts!! Full hookups, spotless rest rooms, coin showers, group bonfires every night, bear-watching rides on a WWII 6-wheeler or nature hikes. We stayed one night on the way up, and two nights on the way back - told them we'd be back to stay in a cabin in August. They're great people!
Happy travels to you! Hope someone else signs on with an even more recent road report.
Cindy
